Best Clarets Individual Goal On The Turf?
Glen Little's against Bristol Rovers when he weaved in and out of their defence springs to mind.
(Though I'll probably recall another in a minute.)
Any more?

I enjoyed j Rod v forest. Plus an Andy Payton goal. I think against Wycombe where he had his back to goal. I suppose someone must have passed to him but he did the tough part!

Re: Best Clarets Individual Goal On The Turf?
Payts himself reckons the one he got against Cambridge was the best.
On the subject of individual goals there was one scored by Tommy Cummings seven days after I was born. Was told it was a bit special.

Robbie Blake v Wolves in Steve Cotterill's first home game was a thing of individual beauty.

Have been spoilt recently! I liked Joey Gudjonssons goal and Steven Defours chip, literally too difficult to pick even a top 10

God I miss Robbie Blake...what a goal and thanks for the reminder Jakub's Tash.
When I saw this thread title Super-Glenn v Bristol Rovers is the one that immediately came to mind but one not mentioned so far is Jay-Rod ice-dancing through the Peterborough defence. The goal that features in one of the pre-match video compilations on the big screen.

From the description Tommy Cummings against Newcastle when he took the ball from box to box to score in January 1952 My Dad wouldn't take me that day because I had had a bad cold and was wheezing but told me all about it when he got back.
Any oldie Claret posters on here see that game? If you did can you confirm?

Re: Best Clarets Individual Goal On The Turf?
Can anyone recall Graham Branches goal i cant remember who it was against but he picked up the ball on the halfway line on the left wing , bundled past a defender, sprinted down the wing almost to the bye line then zipped the ball across and it went in the goal, i think it was meant to be a cross to Ade but i will never forget that one. Anyone else remember it please?

I seem to recall a Graham Branch goal where he starts around the half way line, runs along the Longside before cutting in and scoring, but can’t remember who it was against

So did Tommy Cummings, he used to love telling people about it. He only scored four times for us but this one even had a book written about it.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote:My dad was at that game and often talked about that goal.
One thing rarely mentioned though is that Billy Morris scored our first goal that day. It was an outstanding goal but Tommy’s made sure it was all but forgotten.

Wasn't that Graham Branch goal against Derby?
He certainly scored one where he ran from the halfway line to the BHE, beating a couple of defenders before turning inside and netting.

I'm sure I've read the greatest ever goal was Tommy Cummings.
But for sheer delight from rising from the ashes to reaching the modern day promised land, Robbie Blake against Man Utd was special.

Re: Best Clarets Individual Goal On The Turf?
That was one of my favourite goals of recent years Tony. Sheer class. If Messi had done that it would be replayed over and over. As for other goals, Joey Gudjohnsson (sp?) Against Preston was a corker. Another shout for defour this time against man utd. There's been so many. Robbie Blake against Preston 2004. Little against Bristol rovers as has been mentioned. Austin against Wednesday I think it was in the 3-3 draw at home.

Which is the Gudjohnsson goal against Preston?
Was it the one that he struck from about 50yrds out which went 100yrds up before dipping over the keepers head?

Re: Best Clarets Individual Goal On The Turf?
No surprise to see Steven Defour mentioned prominently on this thread, although the one against Man Utd was at Old Trafford. His goal against Bristol City was top drawer but my personal favourite was the one against Hull City.
He pulls the ball out of the air and sends the Hull player in the opposite direction in one movement before advancing on goal and smashing the ball past the keeper from 25 yards. A thing of beauty, in fact a masterpiece, and one which only a world class player could score.

Brian Miller’s run down the left flank and shot that beat Sheffield Utd’s Alan Hodgkinson in the early 60’s was the best individual goal I’ve witnessed at TM.

Seem to remember Derek Scott with his back to goal flicking it over his and the defenders head and hitting a worldly on the volley into the top corner.... I know and yes Derek Scott. He was just past no mans land attacking the Cricketfield. Sadly I cannot remember the year or who against.
Paul Cook hit the occasional fizzier. But there have been some amazing goals, both for pure strike quality and also high stakes pressure to name anything not viewed in true wonderment as a child.

Pity it was that game as in late 1951 I was on when we beat Boro 7-1 and Billy Morris and I think Bill Holden got 3 each and their keeper was Italian, I think, called UgoliniAshingtonclaret46 wrote:My dad was at that game and often talked about that goal. I can remember that goal I think. It was at the cricket field end against Portsmouth if my memory serves me right. One of my favourites has to be Billy Ingham goal against Chelsea at the beehole end. That good he got renamed Ginger Pele for that goal. I remember Billy Hamilton running from our box at the bee hole end and carrying the ball to the other end and firing past the Preston keeper. I’m sure it was when we won the third division title. That has always been my favourite goal.

I must be 3 days younger than CT and also got reminded of the goal by my Dad on lots of occasions. Seem to remember it was better than the birth of his first son! Bank Hall must have been buzzing.
Glenn Little v BR stands out but in Stans day we were always pulling one out at the death. Had to go one down before we got going.

Another for Hoskin.
Re: Best Clarets Individual Goal On The Turf?
I've seen that goal on film but I couldn't locate it on youtube.
Derek Scott once scored a 30-yeard screamer to level against Charlton in the late 70's, Cricketfield end. Those kind of goals were rare, very few scored from outside the box, different pitches, different 'caseys' etc.
