Stuart Downing
Blackburn Rovers have signed Stewart Downing on a free transfer. Been a bit of ‘meh’ player but could bring experience to their team.

Re: Stuart Downing
He is 35 in July and well known to Tony Mowbray and could do very well for Rovers.
He was not available for quite a while last season at Middlesbrough, in spite of Tony Pulis wanting to use him. The club did not want to give him the option of a contract extension and Pulis was told not to pick him until they managed some sort of resolution.

Re: Stuart Downing
He should sue them. He signed that contract with the agreement that playing in enough games will trigger a new deal. He was dropped purely so the club didn’t have to fulfil their end of the agreement.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote:He is 35 in July and well known to Tony Mowbray and could do very well for Rovers.

Good player with a great left foot. Very similar to Matty Taylor. Could be a decent older head.

Instantly reminded me of us in the dark days, picking up former stars in the hope of getting one last hurrah out of them.
It worked with Ian Wright, but it had failed several times before with lesser lights.

Thought he'd retired in 2012 or something. Who's next on their list, Nick Barmby?

I always enjoy the rumour of his transfer to Liverpool.
An edited video of him landing footballs straight into bins from various distances impressed the then owners. Or so the story goes.

Thought to be on around £60k per week at Boro

Re: Stuart Downing
I like how we're shitting on Rovers for signing Downing, but we signed Peter Crouch when deep in trouble.

Re: Stuart Downing
Crouch was brought in to be an impact sub, to change our attack. Do you expect Downing was signed with similar intentions or as a major signing?KRBFC wrote:I like how we're shitting on Rovers for signing Downing, but we signed Peter Crouch when deep in trouble.
Re: Stuart Downing
We were deep deep in trouble, sold Vokes, had plenty of cash, and the best saviour we could come up with was Peter Crouch? please don't try and excuse such a huge stupid riskelwaclaret wrote:Crouch was brought in to be an impact sub, to change our attack. Re: Stuart Downing
We gave him a 6 month deal - a number of fans including myself did not agree about selling Vokes and getting Crouch when we were in a big relegation battle but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a laugh at Bast-ards signing a 35 year old on big wages in the hope it might get them to the dizzy heights of 15th in the ChampionshipKRBFC wrote:I like how we're shitting on Rovers for signing Downing, but we signed Peter Crouch when deep in trouble.
Re: Stuart Downing
Regardless of what everyone thinks of Downing, in the few games I watched him he can still deliver a good ball into the box, perhaps that's all that Mowbray requires from him.

Re: Stuart Downing
Very true and I should think that the guy who would have to sue Boro would be Stewart Downing if he had any chance of winning.Tricky Trevor wrote:This is not an original concept.

Re: Stuart Downing
Another couple of assists today for Downing and some very winnable fixtures coming up and only 3 points off the play offs. He's been a very good signing. On the plus side Preston look to be bottling it againTVC15 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 1:50 pmWe gave him a 6 month deal - a number of fans including myself did not agree about selling Vokes and getting Crouch when we were in a big relegation battle but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a laugh at Bast-ards signing a 35 year old on big wages in the hope it might get them to the dizzy heights of 15th in the Championship

Neither of our lower league neighbours PNE or Rovers will make the playoffs
They have had a decent season but inconsistent results will stop any hope of promotion
