Yes.ClaretTony wrote:Was that the farce match when Sparks pressured the umpires into calling it off?
Yep... 50 years yesterday!CleggHall wrote:Great photos but makes me feel old looking at the spectators, players kit and ground facilities. Was 1969 so long ago!?
I was there. Lowerhouse couldn’t wait to get back on but the rain had changed things and all the nastiness had gone from the wicket. So Sparks started his slipping and sliding routine. Bernard Lavin was batting by this point and just got on with things but Sparks kept telling the umpires it was impossible to bowl.Hopey wrote:Yep... 50 years yesterday!
Same Dennis Pollard yes. Used to travel on Boundary Clarets to all the away games around a decade or so ago as did Mick Swift.FCBurnley wrote:I was there as well. Probably with CT and Shappie etc. Amazingly I dont remember the game but it sounds like the usual Lowerhouse farce. Was Denis Pollard the same one who went on to play for Redrose ?
We were always well dressed then and I think I’ve spotted someone I knew on one of them.BigRedrose wrote:Fantastic pics Hopey, couple of years before I started watching Lancashire League cricket but amazing to see the dress code of the spectators, big coats in June!
Decent bowler and a nice guy was Dennis. Always thought he played for Padiham.ClaretTony wrote:Same Dennis Pollard yes. Used to travel on Boundary Clarets to all the away games around a decade or so ago as did Mick Swift.
He did play for Padiham at one point. Not seen him at the football in a while.FCBurnley wrote:Decent bowler and a nice guy was Dennis. Always thought he played for Padiham.
