Top, top player.

He needn’t worry bout that first season. He was ok ya know!

Glad he got his shot at the PL. Even gladder (is that even a word?) it was with us.

It must irk PNE Fans that, whilst he gave most of his time to them, the best part of his career was spent with us.
That makes me smile.

I really hope he goes a long way as a manager, a bonafide club legend at Preston, he's on their wall of greats, a select few, what a send off for his 400th and last appearance. His time at Burnley helped us both get to a place we never thought we'd see. What a penalty record, scored that massive one against Reading in the first leg and had this to say about his success from the spot,

"I never practiced with a goalkeeper, because it affects your mindset. That way you get into patterns and second guessing."

Genius.

I thought Cotterill brought him in to play that holding role but was unable to because of injuries at right back. It was clear the Alexander was not capable of being a modern right back.

Makes you wonder what might of been if he had played his entire career in that holding position?!

Cotterill did bring him in to play midfield and that’s where he made his debut. When Duff did his cruciate he moved Grezza to right back until he got a right back in on loan to cover. That deal was done but then blocked by Flood.

So to suggest it was Coyle’s doing is not correct.

Tony- who was the player that didn’t come in then? Who did Flood block?

Bromby from Sheffield United. Plan was to get him in on loan until the January window opened and we could make a permanent signing.

Do you know why Flood blocked it? Would it be financial reasons?

Interesting thought that Cotterill played him in a midfield 2, against Blackpool at home certainly, which wouldn’t have worked as well IMO.

So it was Coyle who moved him into holding midfield, with 2 others in front, which allowed him to flourish for us.

Alexander debut was at Colchester and he played behind Mahon & McCann. That was how Cotterill wanted to play him.

I remember him getting cramp, in his first match, at Colchester!

Fortunate enough to shake this hand and say thank you, when he was in the press seats, some time back.

Are you sure Mahon wasn’t out wide that day?

I can’t remember but it would seem odd to get him to play there, and then move him into a 2 the next game

Signing Grezza got a lot of stick on the message board at the time. Playing him in that holding midfield role got even more. But what a good signing he was.

They are 5th and only played 5 games.

I'll be surprised if Scholes does much.

He's been caught speaking to Mike Garlick about the soon to be vacant Burnley job.

(I have made this up)

Always remember Alexander on radio after Coyle and the others left for bwfc speaking in the capacity as the most senior pro at the club.
‘There’s no point bothering about him (OC) because he’s not bothered about us’
That for me drew a line under the matter and we rose back after that.
I’ve always wanted to thank Graham for this. Top bloke, player and manager and no doubt back in the game soon
