I played against Keith Roscoe in the 1950s so he must be getting on a bit.
He still watches the Clarets and is a fantastic cricketer.

Re: Lancs League 23/6/19
Roscoe got the great Sir Viv Richards out (caught behind) at Rawtenstall when Richards was pro at Rishton. That's probably THE moment he remembers most from his very long career. (One of the other Rishton lads got 50 that day and Richards came round with the collection box which I thought was a nice touch!)Longsidelenny wrote:That Keith roscoe must be the best amateur bowler ever to play in the league well done Keith

He got him out at Rishton too. Was an article in Wisden few months ago.Dark Cloud wrote:Roscoe got the great Sir Viv Richards out (caught behind) at Rawtenstall when Richards was pro at Rishton. Viv did that more than once. The best pro I ever came across in the Lancs League both on and off the field.

I didn't realise that, but I went along to the Rawtenstall game (along with about 1,000 other people!) just to see Richards play and although he only got 33? or so, it's something I'll never forget. (Most neutrals like myself were bitterly disappointed with Roscoe's golden moment!!! )Steve-Harpers-perm wrote:He got him out at Rishton too. Was an article in Wisden few months ago.

Re: Lancs League 23/6/19
I was at the game at Rawtenstall in 1987. With the small boundaries it could have been carnage but Kes and Peter Barnes behind the stumps did the business.
The scorecard on the League website has Rishton winning by 35 runs but my memory is it had rained and it went to the last ball as Rawtenstall were chasing a reduced target. Rawtenstall finished 2nd that year 5 points behind Haslingden.

Rishton beat Nelson by 38 runs. The Rishton pro (who's a spin bowler) had 5 for 43 but bowled 18 wides!!! He also had a 3 wicket maiden.
