Ali Brownlee

Post by Tricky Trevor » Sun Jun 23, 2019 4:52 pm

Took a drenching today to see this guy. One of my all time favourites, doing his first Ironman.
Sadly the 3.8k swim had to be cancelled due to horrendous seas.
After a 113mile bike ride he ran his marathon in 2h 54m to pull back a 12min deficit and win.
I’ve been running since I was a kid and have trained with many internationals but this fella is so easy and effortless. He barely kisses the ground as he floats along.
A privilege to see him in action.

Youghal in Co Cork. They have a 3 year contract with an option for 5 if the Ironman organisation are happy with the event. Losing todays swim was a disappointment but inevitable. With 2500 entrants someone would have drown in there.

Possibly in training for this? Tri against Ironman takes different skills.

And fair play to anyone who goes to watch it and certainly not criticising, but got to ask the same question as theroyaldyche Tricky. You travelled a long way, got soaked just to watch Ali Brownlee to run passed you for a few seconds?

From the photos it looks like he ran past at least twice (assuming Trevor took both photos)

I have raced in a team event against the Brownlee brothers.

My team lost.

Travelled 20miles BRR, live here. Also it was a 4 lap, very narrow, marathon course. It was possible to see them 8 times on the run and 4 on the bike.

I did some work at Ironman's headquarters in Florida a few years back. It's on the beach in Tampa and everyone heads out for runs on the beach or a swim in the sea at lunchtime and the canteen is all salads and smoothie shakes.
