I beg to differ. He'll have a career in football but up in Scotland or at League 1/2 level imo.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with him next year. He's clearly a long way from the Premier League so I guess it will depend on whether we can get him out at a lower-end Championship team for some appearances

Not good that he wasn’t a starter for third tier Sunderland. A long way from our first team.

My mates a Sunderland ST holder and said he was a bit of a clogger. Not sure if it was Dunne himself or the way they set up but that was what he reported back.

I feel a bit sorry for Jimmy Dunne, he was doing so well at Hearts. Sunderland was a disaster.

Hearts were doing well with JD, too!

At 20 you will have been probably been playing football for 12 or 13 years. If you can’t pass the ball well by the time you are 20 my guess is that you ain’t going to improve that much

Unless you've been a centre half all your life and suddenly all centre halfs need to be Beckenbauer. It would be remiss, would it not, for a club to go "naaaaah, can't pass, get shut" rather than actually using those people they employ, you know, those coach people, to improve the passing.

And very expensive to buy a ready made "passing center half" in.

I honestly don’t see your point though.
Are you suggesting our coaches have not worked with him ?
I have seen him play only a couple of times and can’t remember much about him tbh. I’m not saying we should get rid of him.
I’m saying that after so many years already being coached and playing the game if his passing is as poor as Sunderland fans are saying personally I think it’s going to be hard for him to improve that much in that area. Doesn’t mean he can’t be a decent CB though.

Plenty of good CBs have not been great passers of the ball- Des Walker for example.

I think a balanced back 4 is equally if not more important than having ball playing centre halves. You wouldnt want all of your back 4 in that mold. The Ben Mees of this world make the ball players look good by doing the gritty/un-noticed side.

It is extremley rare that you see a complete defender these days, one who is great with and without the ball. Van Dijk fits this billing but neither Tarks or Maguire are anywhere near this standard yet.

I've seen him a few times and he's a lump the ball into touch and up the line kind of player. He has no balance yet he has bricks for feet. He's a liability when the ball is at his feet which is no doubt why he does it. We can't move on and improve on what we have if we can't string passes together and lump it up the wing division 3 style.
