Sad news of a claret passing

Post by ian » Mon Jun 24, 2019 11:58 am

Hello

On Friday, my stepfather Arthur Parry passed away peacefully in hospital. He was a season ticket holder for many years, firstly in the Cricket Field stand before it went all away fans, and later sat in the Bob Lord stand where he had just renewed his ticket. He managed to attend the Wolves H match recently which was his last at Turf Moor.

He started taking me to the football in 1987 and the Orient game was my third ever game I attended. Arthur took me to watch my first game- Wrexham at home on a dreary wet Tuesday night a few weeks earlier with the match finishing 0-0, and I could have been forgiven in thinking that it never got any better that that, but it did and I have Arthur to thank for making me a season ticket holder. Now my 9 y.o. son loves running around every week at PE in school with his Burnley top on, right under the nose of his PE teacher who just happens to be a Rovers fan.

I have attached a photo, you may not know the name but may recognise a face. I'm glad Burnley made it all the way to the Premier League by the time he died, he loved his football and his club.

RIP Arthur.

Your stepfather's last game was Sean Dyche's 300th - what a last 300 games to see! (I only know this because my mum's last game was also Wolves at home, in 2012, which was Dyche's first game).

RIP

Hi Ian

Arthur's seat was next to me and John in the Bob Lord.

He loved his football and especially his Caravan holidays.

So pleased he made the Wolves game and that we won.

Will miss Arthur very much.

I have let John know.

Regards

Mike

Very sad news, my thoughts are with you and your family.

Along with my late father (Jack) and then my mother (Bernice, who's still a season ticket holder) after his death in '92, we sat in seats R74/75 in the Cricket Field stand until it became for away fans only.

Despite everything that's happened since (Premier League etc) those years (80s and early 90s) were the best years for me following the Clarets. However poor the football was at times in that period, I always used to look forward to Saturday afternoons with yourself, Arthur and John and Jack and Fred (who came from Morecambe). It was great fun - many arguments (or course) but very many more laughs.

Hi Paul, good to hear from you.

I recall those days very well, I remember giving Jack from Morecambe high-fives every time we scored, which wasn't too often. They got more frequent though. He brought lovely milky coffee to the matches as well. Its funny the random things you remember down the years.

I think Arthur would have agreed with you on that period of time as well.

A lovely ( although sad) post and picture. I am sure he will have really enjoyed seeing The Clarets rise back to the top.
