CT's past results and Tables

Post by mdd2 » Wed Jun 26, 2019 7:47 am

Monumental task for CT to do this for us
Thought a thread might help for any errors spotted
Feb 17th 1952/53 season result was 3-2 not 2-1
I am sifting through the results seeing what I remember watching and this isn't one
Can definitely go back to 50/51 season Feb 24th and Jackie Chew scoring twice as we beat Spurs 2-0 and think but cannot be sure Dad took me to the first game, lost 1-0 to the Gunners there was a goal I think off the bar but not sure

I’ll second that. It’s great to see the programmes too.

There will be errors, no doubt about that, but hopefully people will pick them up which will enable me to correct them which I've just done with that Spurs game in 1952/53 that mdd2 rightly confirmed was 3-2.

It's going to be some considerable time before I get anywhere near complete with them but I'll get there eventually. I'd like to get them all done by the end of the year though from 1946/47 through to today.

Fair play to you, Tony

That's some effort

It's an excellent resource, you can spend hours looking through it

As CT alluded to on the other thread yesterday it's even more fascinating now that we can relate to some of the opposition scorers. Some incredible names like Alf Ramsey, Finney, Mortenson, Edwards, McParland, Lawton, Wayman and so many more.

Of course the next batch of five seasons will culminate in the Championship season, so can't wait for that one.

Of the names you mention there, they are all familiar names to me but McParland is the only one of those who I saw play. There was also another ex-Claret scoring against us, Billy Elliott for Sunderland. They are all names I learned from my dad. I know, if he were here, the name he'd pick out above all others would be Finney.

As a Claret, one can only marvel and applaud such actions, on behalf of us, the club and history.

Thank you

Peter McParland was one player in particular who became a thorn in our side as Aston Villa became a bogey side to us during the 50's. In the '58/'59 season we were in a rich vein of form and looked a certainty to go to the FA Cup semi-final after drawing 0-0 in the 6th Round at Villa. Nobody was beating us on the Turf but along came Mc Parland with two goals I think to beat us 2-0 and end our hopes for that season.

I was behind the goal at the cricket field end. We watched McParland powering towards us with Jimmy Adamson alongside. We were shouting 'bring him down' but Jimmy wasn't that vulgar. He scored.

Charlie Wayman, centre forward at Preston. Decent enough player and certainly scored against us.

Recounted to CT about Harry Potts playing for Everton in the first of his last 3 games for them at the Turf in 1955 when we lost 1-0 to a penalty-Everton's first season back in Division One.Cannot remember if it was Potts who fell in the box for the pen; but my Dad said HP was known for getting into the box and getting penalties (better not let Dyche know0

Disappointed. I thought this was going to be a scan of CT's O Level results and photos of his kitchen furniture through the ages.

... Burnley v. Everton Everton were a goal up in four minutes. JONES netting from the penalty spot after a foul on Potts. It was their first goal of the season. For Burnley, Pilkington sent a couple of centres across the Everton goal, but the visitors' defence ...

Just found this after quite a search.

So that would be the '55/'56 season?..........Did he play much for Everton that season?

I know he was in a coaching role at Wolves in 1956 before coming to us as manager in Jan'58. His first stint kept him here remarkably for 12 years until Feb'70.

He just played three games and then retired in September 1955. His first was Burnley on August 27th then WBA on the 31st and finally at home to Luton on September 3rd.

Don't forget Tony "Burnley 0 Everton 1 Jones 6 mins (pen) After a certain H Potts got into the penalty area and fell down".
After all Harry Worth did similar in filling in his football pools.
