I would bin any letter addressed " Dear costumer ".

I think the fact it's addressed to "Dear Costumer" is the first clue that it might not be genuine (unless you happen to work in the costume industry)

porpuses - purposes
a rival - arrival

There are probably more but those are the ones I spotted on first reading.

It is good enough to fool some unfortunately. I’m sure the effect of such scams has reduced dramatically with all the publicity.
The lack of Barclays company information, contacts etc, scream scam.

Barclays used to have a policy of seriously investigating every case to its max... one of the few things I’ve ever liked about the company. It would certainly be of interest to them.

As far as scams go, it's an appalling effort.

To most people this is bloody hilarious (me included) but I know my elderly parents would get caught out by this type of thing., so although it is funny to most there are people who get stung by this and they're not stupid just old and vulnerable.

Saw this on facebook today. Could be bogus, could be re-hashed from years ago but you can’t have enough information.

'NEW HOTEL SCAM!!
This is one of the smartest scams I have heard about.
You arrive at your hotel and check in at the front desk. Typically when checking in, you give the front desk your credit card (for any charges to your room) and they don't retain the card.
You go to your room and settle in. All is good.
The hotel receives a call and the caller asks for (as an example) room 620 - which happens to be your room.
The phone rings in your room. You answer and the person on the other end says the following:
'This is the front desk. When checking in, we came across a problem with your charge card information.
Please re-read me your credit card numbers and verify the last 3 digits numbers at the reverse side of your charge card.'
Not thinking anything wrong, since the call seems to come from the front
desk you oblige. But actually, it is a scam by someone calling from outside the hotel. They have asked for a random room number, then ask you for your credit card and address information.
They sound so professional, that you think you are talking to the front desk.
If you ever encounter this scenario on your travels, tell the caller that you will be down to the front desk to clear up any problems.
Then, go to the front desk or call directly and ask if there was a problem. If there was none, inform the manager of the hotel that someone tried to scam you of your credit card information, acting like a front desk employee.
This was sent by someone who has been duped........
and is still cleaning up the mess.

I'm pretty sure this is a scam of a scam. I'm not too familiar with Bangalore but I would be surprised if there was a Bangalore Lane.

Bung all your available paper rubbish in the envelope that it came in and simply post it back to them therefore they get the cost of the return postage.

Anyone who falls for this deserves to have all their money removed, for their own personal safety. They may buy a bread knife and accidentally and brutally cut off their own head with it.

The sad thing about these scams is that the errors are intentional and devious. They are sent out indiscriminately - and the obvious errors ensure that only the most vulnerable will respond.

Whilst there is something inadvertently humorous in this scam it will, no doubt, worry some who will respond and then suffer for their actions. There is more than a hint of blaming the victim for their losses from some of the replies on here. The fault is with the criminals behind these scams and not the person who falls for them.

Agreed. There may be people who are either very stupid, or mentally handicapped, or becoming "forgetful" in their old age; the law's protection applies to them as well as to the more self-sufficient. Criminals like this, even incompetent ones, should be made to pay back every penny (to bankruptcy and beyond) and do jail time as well.

There's a common one around at the moment where someone rings up from the UK, or apparently so, telling people that there is an arrest warrant for non-payment of tax, and giving a fraudulently expensive premium rate phone number to ring. Why the phone companies co-operate in this sort of scam is beyond me - maybe if some phone company directors were seen in the dock, they might stop collecting the money for these sort of scams.

You would have to be quite naive to fall for that one, particularly as ALL Banks tell you not to reveal your pin number even to their staff.

This isn't even a real scam.
It was purely a joke on a Facebook page in 2018, by a chap called Simon Harris.
Some lazy news outlets picked up, and it spread.
