One club players
One club players
I was just reading an article on F365 about one club players and it picked George Bray for ours https://www.football365.com/news/every- ... e-club-man" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm struggling to think of many others, particularly in recent times (excluding those who only had a brief professional career). Any suggestions for any others? And for clubs in general, are there many modern one club players?

Re: One club players
Purely on longevity that should win but Brian Miller was player, coach & manager and fulfilled the one club criteria.
Le Tissier is probably the most famous as his talents deserved a bigger club but player only.

Re: One club players
Giggs was a youngster at Citeh, if that counts.
Bobby Charlton managed PNE, his brother managed a few.
Tony Adams has managed abroad.
Scholes managed Oldham, however briefly.

I was just thinking of playing career. The Utd and Liverpool ones had occurred to me (although I'd forgotten about Gerrard's MLS spell) but no others.

Old school and before my time - honestly - Billy Wright and Jimmy Dickinson. I was going to say James Coppinger as he's such an iconic figure by modern standards didn't realise he had a career pre-Doncaster. As a former Bradford resident I thought maybe Ces Podd - but didn't realise he went on to play for Halifax.

And a nicer man than the Preston Plummer you couldn’t have wished to meet. There again you could say the same of Brian Miller, George Bray, and Bob all four I was incredibly fortunate enough to have not only met but spoken at some length... in fact probably the four longest conversations I ever had with pro footballers, pure co-incidence too as they were all for very different reasons. Re: One club players
After re-reading the article I notice that after the players named it only gives their playing years. Although it mentions George’s time as kitman and coach.
With 21 years it should be Jerry Dawson for us.

Re: One club players
Brian was probably at Burnley longer than anyone but George Bray. I knew both of them well and one thing I can tell you about them was they were both as passionate about Burnley Football Club as I am. They both bled Claret and Blue. Two people we should be very proud to have been associated with our club.Bin Ont Turf wrote:Only one name comes to my mind when thinking of one club players/one club men, and that is Brian Miller.

There’s a crazy stat that he hadn’t scored 20 goals in a single season until he was 32 and then ended up doing it 5 times.

I recall reading somewhere - the Gary Imlach book about football in the days of the maximum wage? a few years ago that towards the end of Finney's career Juventus wanted to sign him and were offering him "an initial signing-on fee which alone exceeded his total career earnings at Preston." The club refused to release him.

Re: One club players
Very much so. Finney wanted to go but players were not free to move then at the end of contracts. Was around 1980 when that came in and I think Ian Brennan was the first to leave Burnley by choice when his contract ended.AfloatinClaret wrote:Perhaps not out of choice?
