They can go as far as anyone can, but when they reach the top table they'll have to either get into bed with a top football agent, like Wolves, or pay over the odds in fees and wages to get better quality players in.
By that point the top clubs will find a way to stop smaller clubs doing it.

I can see them playing League One or Championship football, and that being about their ceiling. Maybe they’ll move stadiums and acquire a larger fanbase but they’ll never be more than a Wimbledon type size.

They are five miles from both Manchester clubs so how far they go will surely be limited by that. I just wonder what might happen to them if the class of 92 find a new toy to play with.

Re: How far can a Manufactured Team Go
I think there is only so far a small club can go and despite all the publicity and money they have had thrown at them Salford are a tiny club and will eventually come to a halt somewhere around League One/Championship. To be fair I hope they do well (although I did want Fylde to get into the league before them). Oddly, speaking of Fylde FC, I was considering (before Salford beat them) how strange it would be to have 3 teams in the Fylde area when they struggle to support one club. Had they achieved promotion would there have been any other area so low in population with 3 football League clubs? Interesting task for someone to check out?
