So confirmed WBA accept 5.5 mill offer for Dawson. Means we will not be getting him I see that as a plus.

I'd rather give Gibson some game time tbh

The sources that everyone was talking about in the links thread

I mean they were from the reputable sources such as HITC, teamtalk and the Mail so must have been some truth in it

And if you can tell I’m most disappointed that this hasn’t been correct ;)

I’d have liked Dawson solely for his heading ability at set pieces. Defensively he’s excellent, and offensively he’d really benefit from our good dead ball deliveries.

Is it mid-July? There was a similar situation with Rondon last year as you say.

Haha surely not even we are stingy enough to value him lower than that. Surely there was no interest.

Would have been a fantastic signing for us at that price and clearly a player Dyche has desperately wanted for about four years, so this does make you wonder along with Adams going to Southampton.

dodged a bullet in my view, he suffers terribly with piles according to a recent interview, probably sidelined for ages if we had him.

No better than what we've got.
As long as we hold on to what we've got.

Fantastic signing to sit on the bench as 4th choice. Dyche did want him, then we signed Gibson instead

Why we have either torn up our target list of players that I think most assumed heavily included Dawson and Adams in particular or were unwilling to pay for both players when we have previously bid more for both than they have ended up going for.

The only logical conclusion I can reach is that we have an entirely different set of targets this summer to what we have done over the last 12 month, which I find surprising.

Would walk into our team at right back, in my opinion. Just as adept there as in the centre and neither Lowton or Bardsley have that position nailed.

If we need a right back, I don't think Dawson would be on anyone's list, not particularly the young attacking full back that would fit into the side. If the price is correct, iam sure if we'd wanted him we'd have got him.

Dawson isn't better than Mee or Tarkowski so wouldn't have improved the team.

I agree.

For all we know we may have had the same offer accepted, yet we demanded relegation clauses, whereas Watford didn't have them.

Probably be sat on his arse a la Vydra.

Dawson will be a decent enough squad signing for Watford

We have 4 excellent central defenders so no need for us to worry

Don’t think for one moment he’d have dislodged Tarks or Mee. However he could have added competition. He could also have solved a potential problem at right back a position. Especially at the nominal (by PL standards) suggested transfer fee.

I would be happy to describe Long as "steady" - "excellent" may be stretching reality a bit too far.

I agree that Tarks, mee and Gibbo are better. However, unfortunately i feel someone will meet Tark's release fee this window. It may be good news that we have missed out Dawson but I worry about our ability to get who we want these days.

Who’s said that we wanted him this time?
Yes SD has apparently been after him in previous windows, and 4yrs ago it would have been a good signing and would possibly have been an improvement on what we had at the time but he’s now 4yrs older, and no better than what we already have imo

Ha give over we have been after him for 4 seasons now - stop trying to make it look like we were never in for him.
You were only quoted the other week saying that Dyche is a big fan so no surprise we are after him again.
Let's face it our recruitment policy is a shambles - this season we need to spend that bit more on players and if it also means wages then so be it.

No don't personally think so as if he had something about him he would have been playing at that level for the last few years - never understand players who are happy to be squad players only though

Are they happy to be squad players though? Maybe they've had some heart to heart conversations with the manager and the manager has made them believe in themselves and made them determined to push for a starting spot?

And isn't a "squad player" exactly what Dawson would be if he came here though?
Not saying he'd be happy with it, but however you frame it, that's what it'd amount to.

How long have we been trying to sign this lad? 5 years?

And Watford go and get him for 5.5m

That is what's known in the industry as doing a Burnley

Who says he’s happy to just be a squad player? He’s been an important member of our team, making 22 PL appearances in 2 seasons. That’s more than 25%. He knows that if there’s an injury to one of our first choice centre backs he will he given the trust of the manager.

He’s been at Burnley a long time, is probably very settled in the area and has probably got a great set of mates. Not to mention he’s part of a PL team and no doubt earning a fantastic living. I don’t think it’s fair to suggest that he doesn’t have ‘something about him’.

That’s as big an out of context reply as I’ve seen. We tried to sign him five years ago and once since. I don’t believe we were in for him this summer at all and eventually last year our main defensive target was Alfie Mawson who had agreed a deal and then shot off to Fulham.

And if our recruitment policy was a shambles I can assure you we wouldn’t be playing Premier League football.

You commented about Dawson a month or so ago Tony and said as much that dyche must like him if we were in for him again - I know he doesn't ring you to tell you our transfer dealings before they happen :D
Anyway we need some quality in through the door soon - no Europa bullshit this season either to blame for some **** poor performances before xmas
