Couldn’t see a thread. England about to bat. Roy back in.

Is Roy fully fit, or a case of England having to take the risk?

Good leave on ball 4 and 2 boundaries. Nasser saying it’s a risk but one worth taking. Almost an edge on the last ball of over though.

From all accounts he's not 100%,but when the alternative is James Vince you can see why England are taking the risk,Morgan said they are going to adapt to the conditions better so let's see, winning the toss and batting first is a good start, now any total over 250 has proved difficult to chase down,so England don''t need to go hell for leather in the first few overs, the key is retaining wickets for the last 15/20 overs, then you can have a dart.

Bairstow looks scratchy again. Extremely lucky twice ... please make a big one.

Yep the pitch is doing a bit for the quicks and the spinners,England have to accumulate sensibly, anything over 250+ is defend-able with Archer and co.

Roy's presence alone is a huge moral boost.

Good cricket pitch, a bit in it for both batters and bowlers.
Great start for England 73-0 off 13 overs

Had a bit of luck though

112-0 off 16 just had a spurt on.

I’d be tempted with Buttler at 3 here from this position.

Roy gone.
160-1

Good catch.

Roy gone to a smashing catch by Jadeja who is on as a substitute fielder. We are doing well but should not get carried away. We need to bat sensibly from here.

There have been some absolute belting catches this World Cup and that one is right up there ... but still for me the Ben Stokes catch is the best so far

Hmm. Who was he on for and why?

Not like England can complain though - there as bad as anyone for just wandering off whenever it suits them.

JB batting nicely after a lot of low scores could we hit the 400 mark today?

I think we will finish 416-6

On for Rahul who injured his back trying to catch a ball that went for 6 (landed poorly)

Momentum stalled somewhat since the wicket.

JB struggled since getting to 100 was only a matter of time but fresh batsman new start no need to smash from the first ball build on the good start get your eye in and then accelerate when your in still think we could get a big score here 350 plus.

Morgan gone. 350 still looks achievable but north of 400 will be tough

The way we have gone about things in the last couple of games we may be lucky to reach 300 ---even after that great start.

Really struggling at the moment. Now Morgan out. England doing their best to throw away a huge advantage.

All that’s needed is to knock it round for singles but no, we get stuck and try daft big shots.

In the same way pragmatic football is needed in certain situations why can't England do the same thing in cricket?

40 minutes later and 400 looking a long way away. Unfortunately, it looks like a 400 wicket.

Not sure if we’ve made a mess of this or if it’s a tougher wicket than Roy and Bairstow made it look.

According to the Beeb

"The last 10 overs have only gone for 25 runs - England haven't hit a boundary in that time."

Game changed when Root came in. Bats like it is a test match and only interested in his own score. He has batted India right back into the game

Slight improvement but looking at the bowlers left 320 might be an achievable target.

Could do with Buttler in.

337 a good score (looked like it might not get there after 40 overs lol) but .... India have some fire power in the batting stakes.....

400 looked achievable after 30 overs but it sets the seco d innings up nicely.

That looks like a very decent score. Unfortunate that they have Bumrah at the end or it could've been 350-360.
India have some very attacking batsmen so 338 is not out of reach but 2 or 3 early wickets (before they get much past 50 say)would make it very difficult. Over to you Mssrs Wood, Woakes & Archer.
Isn't Rahul confined to batting low down the order with having been off for so long as well? That may be good for us if so.

I find the Sky coverage fairly annoying in the way that they are forever leaving the live play to show earlier clips from the game or clips from previous games - even in the middle of an over. Very disconcerting & hardly needed given the live cricket is exciting enough.
