Are there any grounds you would be happy.to sit with the home fans knowing it was safe.and the flip side to that.know it would be like a red flag to a bull

Sitting in any home end ( as an away fan) is asking fur slap in all fairness. You can’t complain if it happens anyway .I guess any of the corporate clubs ( big 6) you’d be pretty safe bearing in mind when I went home end at Man City I was surrounded by Japanese tourists who jabbered away constantly

Re: Friends and Foes
I've sat in the home section at Stadium of Light with a mate who's a Sunderland fan and he has done the same at Turf Moor.
As long as sensible and dont go too over the top with the celebrations, never had any issues.
Although thinking about it, the game at SOL was the dull 0-0 cup game and the game at TM was Andre's hat trick game so mate had nothing to celebrate

You would be very unlucky to receive a slap in any home end in the Premier league.
If you mouth off then that's a different matter.

Re: Friends and Foes
I've sat in the home end at City, Spurs, Saints and Arsenal and never had an issue.
I was at Saints the week before we played there in the cup a few years ago, wearing a Burnley hat which raised a few eyebrows and got some laughs.
They mainly told me I was a week early , but I was back there for our cup game in the away end.
I'd taken my kids to watch them play Chelsea.
Arsenal was when we played there in the cup a couple of years ago and the only place I could get a ticket was through borrowing someone's ST.
The fans around me cottoned on pretty quick, but again we had a laugh and it was a good day out tbh.
Weirdly they were booing Walcott when he was warming up but cheering Rosicky even though he rarely played.
City and Spurs fans didn't really chat that much so no one twigged.
Naturally a Millwall fan I know told me never to try it at their place and I wouldn't.

Been in the home end at Huddersfield and Man United recently, no bother at all. Generally it's behaving like a p***k that gets you in trouble, rather than who you support.

Common Practice in the seventies....But we've moved on. Personally Away crowds should be Catered for with a Lot more tickets that's the answer. But some on here don't Like that.

Re: Friends and Foes
Done it a few times and tended not to celebrate when we scored. Notable exceptions were Watford (A) in 2002 when Paul Weller scored a last minute winner and at Wembley when Chris Wood equalised against Spurs. Pretty difficult to keep a lid on it in those circumstances. In the days before all-seater stadia it was quite common for away fans to sit in the main stand without there being any hint of aggro. It was only the terraces where there was any segregation.

Lost count on the number of times I've sat in the home end at away matches, (though this is much more difficult in the Premier League). 99% of football fans are absolutely fine and as long as you are not drawing attention to yourself you are perfectly safe, even at the B@stards.

I remember looking at Palace one season and they require a membership fee before you can buy a ticket.
I think some other clubs do it too.

Not a problem if you’re a football fan sat with other football fans.
There will be problems if you’re a “casual Liam Gallagher wanna be Stone Island wearing weapon” sat with other “casual Liam Gallagher wanna be Stone Island wearing weapons”

I’ve sat in many a home side and rarely had a problem, with the exception of Sheffield Excited and Wycombe wonkers and they were only verbal silliness by some who should have known better.

Re: Friends and Foes
I've sat in many home "ends" watching Burnley and never had a problem and I've always been open about it and enjoyed watching football with other fans from other clubs. If you go to watch the match and enjoy it there's never a problem; if you go for trouble that's what you'll find.
Re: Friends and Foes
A friend of mine (Chelsea Fan) went to Bradford (when the Bantams were in the PL) Away tickets were rocking horse doo-doo, and was told when he went to buy a ticket ... he had to also buy a Football shirt before they would allow him entry to the home end as he wasn't a member...GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:I remember looking at Palace one season and they require a membership fee before you can buy a ticket.

Re: Friends and Foes
Sat in a few home ends and as other posters have said if you behave curiously and avoid numpties you'd be fine. Not sure if I'd sit in the more boisterous ends at the usual suspects more dangerous clubs.
Re: Friends and Foes
In a reverse way. I sat with the Oldham fans in the cricket field end for a league cup match around ten years ago.

Re: Friends and Foes
About thirty years back I took an Australian friend to Highbury to watch Arsenal v Spurs on a cold and blustery day, feeling cold after only a few minutes he pulled a dark-blue and white striped bobble hat out of his pocket and put it on amidst a sea of red and white - I thought we were going to die!
When I quietly suggested that this might not be the best time or place to be sporting a Spurs hat, he replied by telling me: "it's not Tottenham, it's a Carlton United beanie." Then as I tried frantically to explain that the difference might not be appreciated I discovered that some of the guys immediately behind were ******* themselves laughing; it turned out that some of them were Aussies too and were happy to confirm that it was definitely 'Carlton-blue', not 'Spurs-blue'. I did get him to remove it as we walked back to the tube station, but he wore that hat all through the match with the guys around (all in red & white) deflecting any and all anti-Spurs abuse, though the other Aussies did dish out their own from time to time - they were apparently Melbourne supporters and gave him anti-Carlton abuse.

Re: Friends and Foes
I sit on the back row of the JHL stand right in front of the JH box. When we play teams from within a 100 mile radius of Burnley there are always at least half a dozen away fans in there. The only times it has " kicked off" was in games against Dirty Leeds and B******s. No surprises there!
There were a few mouthy Wolves fans in there last season who had plenty to say pre match. Fortunately a few stern words from the security chaps in hospitality and our early goal resolved that.

Re: Friends and Foes
Not in the 'Home end' admittedly, but around 1985 or 86 via a workmate of the wife's I got invited to watch us play at Aldershot in their Director's box, we won 2 - 0 and whilst I'd avoided wearing any claret and blue I didn't do so well at the not celebrating bit: Their Chairman (some dodgy car dealer) was not best pleased when I celebrated our first goal and when I did so again only five or ten minutes later - I'd really tried not to and it was a fairly muted/discrete celebration, but I just couldn't help myself, we didn't win many, especially away from home in those days. He went ballistic and had security escort me from the Director's Box across to the away supporters end. So for any of you who were there that day and wondered what was going on when the game got held up for a couple of minutes whilst some guy was walked down the main stand and then diagonally across the pitch; that was me getting turfed out.Sausage wrote:...tended not to celebrate when we scored...In the days before all-seater stadia it was quite common for away fans to sit in the main stand without there being any hint of aggro. Used to be common before the 80’s. I’ve sat with ex- rovers winger Jimmy Mullen ( no relation) with my dad watching us at Deadwood... the day they lost their roof. It was truly a sign of what lay ahead, horrific a club in tailspin, fans helpless.

Re: Friends and Foes
Been in various home parts of several grounds back in the late 70s - early 80s when it was possible to pick up ' comps' now and again depending on who you knew - some places are harder than others to blend in though!
I've stood in the Shed at Chelsea and kept my trap shut; the West Side Upton Park and kept my trap shut; home end at Pompey and kept my trap shut to quickly recall three. Had some entertainment when on my own and in with the home fans at Blackpool in 2013 after an old colleague in Blackpool got me a comp and I couldn't keep my trap shut
As others have mentioned, 40 years ago the away terraces could be way more dangerous than being with one or two others in the home end.

Re: Friends and Foes
Been in the home end at West Ham (the 1-0 defeat when Duff was sent off), Man Utd for Laws first game in charge, Coventry for both the Cup defeat in 99 and the 2-0 win in 2000 (The indirect free kick game) and Ipswich a couple of times, including the 6-1 hammering, Norwich 7 or 8 years ago. No real issues at any and I made no secret of who I was supporting.
Stockport away 1985/6 on a Friday night when it hammered it down was a different story. Kicked off at half time with some of the home fans and we were kicked out by the coppers, only for another copper to threaten to arrest us for trying to get on the open end with the Burnley fans. Went back in the stand and were threatened with arrest if we didn't get out. We ended up getting kicked out onto the open end and getting soaked watching what I seem to recall was a 1-1 draw.

I was in the Home End at Coventry for an FA Cup game.
Nice and reserved as you do and the half time draw numbers came out.
A woman a row in front won a decent wedge and it transpired she, along with a few others were Clarets.
I think she worked in Coventry.
We didn't have anything to shout about anyway as Robbie Keane tore us a new one.

Re: Friends and Foes
One of their Moroccan players scored a screamer - Haji or Chippo I think were the 2. Such a gulf in class that day, I think it was Keane that sold Steve Davis a dummy from about 5 yards away, a ball into his feet that he dummied through his legs and spun after the ball. We were 2 divisions apart for that game, 2 years later we turned in a great performance and beat them 2-0. How the fortunes of each club have gone in different directions since....JohnMac wrote:I was in the Home End at Coventry for an FA Cup game.
