Good team on paper should have done better in the league though
Talking about the ASC we should have gone out on penalties against Mansfield Town but for the ref making a missed penalty be retaken that should not have been retaken in the quarter final at the Turf

Tony Arins played in both legs of the Final replacing Derek Scott who was injured. He only played 29 league games for us before leaving for Leeds in May 1980. Decent enough full-back was Tony but was always behind Scotty.elwaclaret wrote:I wouldn’t have got Arins. Why do I not know him?

To be honest, Steve, the one you point out was the only one I had a question mark over. But who else could it be?
James was involved all through that competition.

TC had left us for Middlesbrough in Oct'78, two months before the Final, but he had played in three of the rounds leading up to the Final.
The plot thickens.

Looks like Billy O’Rourke behind Ingham. You were allowed a sub keeper in ASC.

Billy ORouke would be my guess, though it could be Malcolm Smith (hard to tell without the tache ) or even Tony Morley c/w hair that I don’t remember.

Re: Is this the last time we tried in the
The problem I have with it being Terry is purely height, he’s as tall if not taller than Jim Thompson. I just don’t remember him being that tall... but then again neither are Morley, Jacob or even a very young Kevin Young.... which for me leaves Smith or Billy O.Royboyclaret wrote:Ah, the night to end all nights,Steve.

That's an altered photograph - badly at that in my opinion so it could well be Hankin.

I agree, the more you look at the photo the more "doctored" it looks.cblantfanclub wrote:That's an altered photograph - badly at that in my opinion so it could well be Hankin.
Brian Hall, Billy Ingham and particularly Jim Thomson look altered.
Think Funkydrummer spotted a problem in post#15.

Re: Is this the last time we tried in the
I'm here and looking at the pic. Totally agree with what's been said that Leighton James played that night but it doesn't look like him behind Billy Ingham to be honest and it does look more like Billy O'Rourke and a goalkeeper sub was permitted. Peter Robinson was definitely the outfield sub.Royboyclaret wrote:That could be it then. But where is James, who definitely played that night.

So I'm assuming Billy O'Rourke but that doesn't answer the question of where Taffy is.

Re: Is this the last time we tried in the
I’ve just shown the pic to someone who is on it and he said Hankin straight away before realising it was some time after he’d left. It’s the hair I think but I’m sure it is O’Rourke.
Sad to think, if it is Billy, that four of those players are no longer with us.
