No excuses now- won the toss (and chose to bat first like they've done successfully before).
Hopefully we get a good opening stand as per v India. Fingers crossed.

It's amazing the difference having this pair at the top of the order makes, strong start but England need to post a big score, and not fall away like India did yesterday.

Ferguson's a big out for the Kiwi's,he's impressed this tournament.

Also shows the importance of winning the toss.

Yet another century partnership for these two.

This is Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy's third century partnership at this World Cup; equalling the opening pair record at this tournament, held by Aaron Finch and David Warner (three).

It is also three century partnerships in a row for Bairstow and Roy - the first time they've done it together in ODIs.

161-1 after 25
If they don’t slow up at this stage as they did v India then they should get 350 plus

206 fer 3 off 32 overs

Bairstow got his hundred then got out.

Joe Root wasted a review on a caught behind.

I expect overs 30 to 40 will be slow to ensure we bat out the 50. Last 10 overs will see us pick up the pace. Hopefully.

Losing Root, Bairstow & Buttler has slowed things down a bit. And, as said, our review was wasted.

Never quite understood that mentality of slowing down.

Getting 350 all out from 45 overs isn't much different from getting 350-7 from 50 overs, for example, when you take into consideration the run rate and wickets lost.

One balances the other.

Morgan and stokes can still do some real damage to the scoreboard. Just need to keep our bowlers in the Pavillion.

We won't get 300 after yet another cracking start.
We just don't seem to perform under pressure. I shall keep my fingers crossed for the win, however, I think that we blew it last week with our defeat against Sri Lanka.
I am the eternal optimist normally, however.....................

Have we hit a six yet? This is really worrying. NZ have bowled well by taking pace off the ball - not something we have. We might need Bangladesh to do us a favour at this rate.

259-6 now.

Struggle to get to 300. Mind you, looks hard for batting at the moment so New Zealand might have to take a few more risks.

The middle order is struggling when Root doesn't bat long. He rotates the strike so well.

I hope England’s bowlers have taken note that it needs to be pace off the ball.

You can never set a field when the ball is never going where the batsman intended and it's quite easy to get a few runs when that happens.

Yes- it looks a very decent score, though 320 looked on after that great start.
If NZ chase that down it'll be an achievement worthy of clinching a semi-final spot (or a poor bowling effort from us).

14-2 Nicholls and Guptill back in the hutch, all on Kane Williamson as per,Woakes and Archer bowling brilliantly.

Can't see them getting anywhere near 300 now,the pitch is becoming slower by the over.

Very lucky.

Not sure how it can be inconclusive if you’re sure he touched it. If he touched it that would be out without doubt

Badly worded on my part.....I meant I am sure that Wood knows he touched it....but from the video umpire point of view it was a big one to overturn...although on one angle it did look clearer than the others

You can see the deflection after the finger in two ways...

Slight change in angle after hitting finger and also in slow motion the seam spin alters as the ball hits the finger tip.

A very unlucky (for NZ) way to be out and a very lucky (for us) run out but as everyone knows you have to make your own luck..... Wood a belter of a cricketer :)

Game over.

Australia,India,New Zealand and England the 4 semi-finalists.

Australia and India jockeying for top spot,if it stays as is.

It'll be

Australia v England

India v New Zealand

Surely England's SF misery has to end sometime doesn't it.

More likely to be England v India I think...

Rather them than the Aussies...but not sure they will whimper out like the other day in a semi

Is there a point where NZ decide to not chase the total because, say, being AO for 170/180 would so badly hit their net run-rate that they'd be in danger of maybe being overtaken by a big Pakistan win? Then they'd be better off just getting 4/5 leisurely runs an over for the next 22 overs and forgetting trying to win today?
