Goal Return From Midfield
What was the goal return from our wingers central midfield
At a guess I would say 8 but that's a stab
Does anyone know the true figure
We seem shy of other teams in this area but have struggled to get any continuity in keeping a lengthy knitted field in this area that's why I think it's been affected and shy of a good return
I would imagine that an average return would be about 15 plus from a team in this area
I could be surprised by the true figure but could be surprised and wrong in saying we under preform when it comes to goals

If you believe some of utter rubbish that is posted on here then we under perform when it comes to goals.
When finishing 7th Burnley scored 36 goals, last season we scored 9 more goals which was 2 less than Wolves.

We never score many from Central Midfield but that is because of the way the team is set up and needs to be. We have to build from a solid defence and provide cover to keep the shape. We do need the wingers to deliver some goals though. JBG and McNeil certainly look capable of this and assists. Perhaps JBG should get a few more goals but delivers assists.

Re: Goal Return From Midfield
Only 5 teams got less goals than us the last two years and only the 3 relegated teams the year before that so we are just doing enough but goal scoring in the Premier League is definitely one of our weaker areas.
You are right though we don't under perform. We are a weak Premier League team performing miracles to survive so as long as we score more goals than 4 or 5 teams we are just about par for the course

Re: Goal Return From Midfield
We're never going to get a lot of goals from midfield (and particularly central midfield) given the way we play - we tend to try and make sure that we've got two midfielders goal side at any given time for a start.
But last season actually was pretty good. As noted, it was 25% higher than the previous season, despite us being less successful as a team and despite us playing 4-4-2 more (so with one fewer midfielder to contribute goals).
Still room for improvement, but McNeil for one should be looking for 6-8 goals over the course of a season in which he's a regular because he gets into good positions and is an excellent finisher. One area we most certainly should be aiming to improve is our return of goals from outside the box - I think we had one in the entirety of last season in the league (Hendrick at Chelsea) which is appalling.

Scoring goals isn't often the key to survival. It's the other end that often proves to be more important.

Thanks for your response it's not as bad as I thought without looking ,I know that its come to the fore in the resent past
I can see us only getting better in this area with McNeil and if Defour can offer where he left off we could be quite exciting it depends on Dyche relieving the shackles a bit UTC

McNeills at the Jimmy Mac end, don’t know where he hit it from exactly but it wasn’t a tap-in.

McNeil got 3 wilks - West Ham, Leicester and Wolves.

McNeil 3 goals as a left footed left mid, in our team, in half a season. Absolutely critical to our attacking play during our escape - in games where he was stopped, we were stopped.

Of course he did.
I missed off his WHU goal
Re: Goal Return From Midfield
As Blackrod & Spice both say, it's the way we're set up to play. Similarly, it's the reason why we don't get many penalties, our wingers take the ball wide & cross into the box for the strikers, whereas someone like Zaha heads straight for the box & goes down as soon as he gets contact. This is one of the most productive ways of getting penalties, like it or not, if you don't invite contact in the box, your chance of a penalty is low.

Re: Goal Return From Midfield
I think we where talking about goals scored from outside the box with the one mentioned that McNeil got against Wolves we know he got 3 in total
But only 3 scored from outside from Hendrick Westwood and McNeil
But we where masters at set peices and the statistic prove it
