This is all very sad. Crouch (a player I have liked in the past) is clearly finished at our level. He wasn't doing particularly well in the Championship.
Time to retire, IMO.
The only question I would ask is "can we really not attract someone better?"

I dont like the way Crouch seems to be calling the shots here. At 38 and barely having played for 12 months we should have been telling him if we were interested and not the other way round. If we were he ought to have been in on Monday like everyone else. Im somewhat surprised at SD in all this particularly given the importance he places on pre season.I would also hate to think we've missed out on other targets while we've been hanging on for Crouch to do us a favour.

Especially when you look at his shabby treatment of Vydra last season, or the hoops Defour was made to jump through in his first season with us to prove himself. Must be different rules if your mates with Sean.

Indeed. Vydra's disrupted pre season 12 months ago was still being mentioned at the end of the season just finished yet Crouch appears to have been given special treatment in terms of missing this week .

At the end of his first season Defour told Dyche he couldn't play alongside people like Boyd...
Boyd left and the rest is history....

Dyche does what he thinks is best.

I can't believe Crouch will come back and we actually would contemplate
bringing him back. Dyche must be out of his mind to even consider bringing someone
in to sit on the bench and come on occasionally for 10 mins or so.

If this is the case then Dyche is becoming one dimensional beyond belief
and more worryingly so far too certain of his own opinions/views and position.

And that is more worrying than anything else even the lack of incoming and ability to
compete for players we were apparently interested in.

SD has clearly told Crouch he could come back for a similar role next season, and left it up to him. SD will decide when enough’s enough and no doubt ask for a yes or no at that time.

Anyone who thinks PC is dictating I suspect would like to over rule SD in some kind of General Manager role, to protect the club.

If Peter Criuch wishes to play football, he should be in pre-season, already. A half fit 38 yo is 10% of a fully fit 38 yo.

I think it's time the directors grew a set of balls and tell SD Crouch is not coming back at any cost.
Then blast that Mike Rigg fellow to find someone decent to replace him.

To replace Dyche? I suspect one of the things Dyche likes about Burnley is that he is the boss on football matters, not the Board of Directors. You possibly aren't alone in wanting the Board of Directors to appoint themselves football supremos ahead of Dyche, but I think you'd be in a very small minority.

2 things:

1) Sean Dyche/Burnley FC like to do our transfer business quietly;

2) Sean Dyche has a sense of humour.

Maybe both of these are relevant in this context?

He’s not under contract at Burnley. Why should we be calling the shots? If you were unemployed would you be letting potential employers call the shots?

“Phil won’t be in today as he’s talking to a club. It’s just been to help him out really, he’s a great pro and I’ve known him a few years. If that doesn’t work out, we’re open to him coming back.”

It’s pretty clear what Dyche means.

Which is a function of the fact that he was only brought on when we were losing.

Seeing as a few players are still away and have an extra week's holiday then I guess it must be normal for non-contracted players to come in and keep the numbers up, after all, it is the first week of training and everyone is just getting back into the running of things, hence the ultimatum to Crouchy before they go away when the real work will start.

No he's right, Defour spoke about it ahead of last year's transfer window.

Can't find the article now, it may even have been in Belgian press but I remember reading it. Here's a couple where he talks about us improving our football last season.

http://sportwitness.co.uk/burnley-star- ... lace-club/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://sportwitness.co.uk/i-feel-good-r ... m-playing/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But it's off topic really. Fact is it doesn't make us look good if we leave offers for players like Crouch on the table.. We look desperate, unprofessional and if we are to attract good players like Defour we need to sign better prospects with greater technical ability.

Mark I or mark II :) ,he could probably do a useful job in League 1 or League 2 as an experienced head,surprised Accy or Fleetwood haven't shown an interest,i can't imagine any Championship sides will be offering him a contract anytime soon.

I’m a bit tired of these idiots who constantly abuse David Jones. They seem a bit ignorant (or maybe too young) to remember what a significant part he played for this club in twice getting us promoted to the top league in the World.

By the way he also did the same for Wolves and Derby.

He learnt his trade at ManU alongside his best man Tom Heaton, captained their reserves and gained an England U21 cap.

Whilst he was with us David Jones was a model professional who gave the manager no grief and played a huge part in the recent success of this club.

He will always be a Claret, lay off him.

Did someone not get a choccy biscuit with his warm milk this morning :lol:

Apparently, stating a fact is now considered abuse - god help us that these people are actually allowed to roam the streets without supervision (would hope this one has a carer ;) )

How is "Heard that David Jones is back training with us" abuse?

People stating to get a bit weird about him now. He was a good player for us, but as time moves on he seems to be somehow becoming some untouchable Burnley great just because a section of the support never got on board.

Contracts are offered on what is judged a player will do, not what a player has done. That’s the logic and it applies to both free agents and players already at a club.

For me, there is no possible gain on investing in Peter Crouch for another season. It’s a multi-million pound deal. If we want to be prudent with our money, I don’t see this as worthwhile at all.

Yeah, if it’s purely for fitness I don’t see a single issue with allowing a well respected player to train with us. We lose absolutely nothing.

He's an individual. If you let an individual who hasn't got a club come back to keep fit, and his former team mates are pleased to see him and are happy to have him, then the current players know that the club isn't a ruthless cut throat organisation that does the dirty on its staff for the minutest advantage. So the current squad feels happier and is a little more inclined, when the time comes, to sign a new contract.

"Keep the staff happy" is a golden rule of man management. Petty unpleasantnesses add up; small benefits add up too.

For the benefit of those who don't know, the point of Crouch is to come on as a late sub when we're level or losing to give us an enormous target man who will cause mayhem in the penalty area. That's it. Anyone who thinks Dyche is trying to sign him to lead the line and play full games and to replace any other potential forward - have another think.
Dyche said we would have to know by the end of the week. So he is clear that he is replacing a potential signing or why would he have to know. Your post is a poor attempt to gloss over a ridiculous situation. I cannot believe that so many people liked it

Dyche is very good friends with Crouch and wouldn't like to fall out when he brought him here to lessen the blow of Vokes, his wages probably went up mates rates :roll:
Dyche claims hes good for the dressing room :roll:
They are both into the same music and go to kasabian concerts hes probably got the omelette in the pan as we speak :lol:
But being serious He's had it for this league but if Dyche thinks he can still contribute then so be it but if doesn't make that plane to Portugal then that surly must be an end to it unless Crouch comes up with a sweetener with some Tickets for the Kasabian concert after the omelettes gone cold :lol:
