Burnleys community kitchen

Post by Quickenthetempo » Thu Jul 04, 2019 6:30 pm

Has anyone been?

Is the food any good?

It's a great idea. I keep meaning to pop in one time.

Been in for a meeting with the manager but only had a brew. Fantastic what they are doing there and we will be helping them from the start of next season.

I went in about two months ago just to have a look and ended up buying some shorts from the clearance items they sell.

Extremely sad to hear people at the counter declaring they had nothing to eat at home and had come to collect from the food bank. A lady in her early 20’s with young baby in a pram asking for her allowance a day early as she was desperate. It was one of those moments when you realise how lucky you are.

Wonderful charity and despite the upset I felt, there was also pride that part of our club provide that support for those that need it.

How does it work. Are volunteers needed, what can we do to help?

The Community Kitchen is on the balcony in the market square. It opens five days a week from 10.00 and you can take any food stuff along that’s not perishable. There’s the food bank, the cafe which makes meals, home made cakes etc, computers, telly, books, and the kitchen that organises cookery classes. It’s manned by volunteer staff and managed by Burnley in the Community. They’ll take any non perishable food, so Tins, cereals, packets of pasta, and long-life milk

You should know by now that men make a better brew. I was brought up in a house where my dad was the best brew maker and my mum's were like dishwater. :D
