Best online poker sites

Post by Chuckypad » Sat Jul 06, 2019 8:32 pm

I used to be a member of PKR and played every now and again. It's a shame it closed as I used to like that the avatars could speak and interact and such like.

I'm considering starting again so was just wondering what the best sites out there are? Are there any like PKR, that offer character animation, or was that the only one?

Also, which sites give the best bonuses?

888 have a big no deposit bonus which means you could try it out with no risk .....

I know MACCA mentioned playing poker a few times on here so he’d be a good person to ask.

A nice timing, as not played much over the last few years - probably 6 years since I last attended a proper Poker tournament.

I'm now starting back at the local casino in Leeds every 2 weeks and so to brush up on things, I've been playing online Zynga Poker - anybody played it? There are options to buy chips, but currently playing 40,000 max buy-ins and have managed to get from around 1 million chips (at start) to over 5 million over the last week or so, so happy to play for free.

So if you're looking for online I would give that a go. You can sign in with Facebook.

PKR hasn't been replaced by anything similar. Though Pokerstars have launched a virtual reality style game I believe, but I haven't played it. In truth, bonuses at all sites these days are nothing compared to what they used to be so don't expect too much.

As for which site to play on now, it depends if you want to play tournaments or cash games?

That usually depends how p/issed I am

Like both, but prefer 6 seater tourneys. Always seem to do ok on those. Play tight til a few knock each other out and then make a start

Keeps the brain ticking. One thing to keep in mind is getting used to going from online to offline - the speed is majorly different.

Yep, I don't play for lots though, just usually $5 tourneys. Play cash games when I'm at the casino, but not really online

If you keep control of your spending, then that's fine, but there's a very fine line and so easy to think, "You know what - I'm only playing with $5, let's up it to $10, it's still small". I'm just thinking of you that's all, as I know a few people who have lost everything from poker.

My advice? You've said you're new to the game. Play free online games to learn the hands, the odds and the implied odds. 99.99% of poker players don't understand the implied odds as this an extension of standard pot odds. You have to know the implied odds to be a good poker player. I've played in casinos all over the place and hardly meet anybody who knows what the implied odds even means, let alone calculating them in their head within a few seconds.

So many more tips to help, but learn the hands, and the odds.

Sky Poker might be worth a look too if you haven't played on there. Software isn't as good as say Pokerstars, but it's one of the softest legit site you can play on and has some decent 6 max tournaments. Also their new sign up bonus looks like it'd suit you too - 'New customers can claim £10 free in Tournament Tokens, plus deposit and stake £10 to receive £40 in tournament tokens '

Cheers. I'm not new to it really. Started playing at uni going on 15 years ago, but I don't play regularly. I'm tight as cramp pal, so no worries about me losing a lot. Mrs would have my b/ollocks off

It's a superb game. Like I say, if you know implied odds and can calculate them within seconds, you'll beat pretty much any random player - and you win money by playing against the weaker players.

It's a bit like the computer dog races and online roulette. The winner is chosen before the cards are dealt

Depends if you're wanting to play recreationally, or to win. If you want to play recreationally then Pokerstars is your best bet followed closely by Party Poker. Lots of tournaments and lots of cash games tables meaning you can play basically whenever you want.

If you want to play to win, but aren't profitable already, then i'd still Party Poker* and pokerstars while you learn the game due to the same abundance of games, but i'd advise you to begin with cash games and become at least profitable at those before attempting to learn tournament poker.

If you're already a solid player and want to grind rakeback then Betfair Poker (20-35%) (upto & inc. 50NL) or Party Poker (25-40%) are good with soft games. Betfair's part of the iPoker network so there's a lot of fun players to take money off since their sites often have bookies attached.
I wouldn't really recommend Pokerstars for cash games (unless you're a crusher) since they have the strongest players and the shittest effective rakeback (as low as 5% if you're a "net withdrawer")

If you're already a tournament player and break-even or profitable then Pokerstars, Partypoker and 888 are where to play.

I'm unfamiiar with 888's cash games.

*Party Poker recently banned HUDs from their site so if you have Poker Tracker or Holdem Manager and expect to use those to improve your game then be advised that you'll have to use their in-client stats, which are not remotely close to as in-depth as PT or HEM.

And unless you're playing either high stakes, or high volume, then don't get hung up on the bonus size. The sites offering insane bonuses often don't have the player pool for you to fulfil the requirements for the full bonus anyway.
