Strange that day. Was at Easter and the weather in the first half was fine. Then came the snow and Terry Donovan had to be taken to hospital with hyperthermia.
I think a young John spender played for Wolves that day.

A defeat that came within a five game losing streak which pretty much sealed our fate of relegation to Division Three. The downward spiral was soon to continue even further.
Aye, John Pender at the back for Wolves.

Geoff Palmer played left back for them that day and he scored putting another nail in for relegation. Played right back for us badly

Remember the game for one reason. Sat in cfs and was just about old enough to go the toilet on my own. The stewards and police wouldn't let me go down the stairs as there was a running battle in full swing on the concourse.

And then went back to Wolves and played well for them again.Wokingclaret wrote:Geoff Palmer played left back for them that day and he scored putting another nail in for relegation. Played right back for us badly
I spoke to him a few years ago at a Walsall v Burnley game. He’s a copper and was on duty.

I could squeeze through the railings between the Bee Hole and Longside in those days. They welded a bar across not long afterwards to stop it. I do remember in the late 80’s if tge weather got really bad they just opened up the gate.

Re: Bee Hole End in the snow in April
That season, in the days before the influx of foreign players, we were one of only two clubs in the country, the other being Arsenal, who could boast a full international from each of the four home countries plus Republic of Ireland.
We had
England - Martin Dobson
N Ireland - Tommy Cassidy & Billy Hamilton
Scotland - Willie Donachie
Wales - Brian Flynn
Rep of Ireland - Paul McGee
Didn’t do us much good.

There is a link on there to the forgotton15. One of Bury’s greatest teams... but has more than a little claret connection.

Old enough to remember that game, and young enough to have been excited when it snowed. I always loved playing football in it myself. Remember Donovan being as good as I’d seen him play, then later that day then he was hospitalised.
Wolves had a bloody good team for our level.

Wolves went up that year in 1983 but then suffered relegations in 1984, 1985 & 1986 and landed in the 4th division.elwaclaret wrote:Old enough to remember that game, and young enough to have been excited when it snowed.
