Not particularly but strange that Villa who will be in a lower half of the league, most probably flirting with a relegation battle like us are NOT sending out the same message as us ? players and agents are waiting until last minute (waffle, waffle, waffle) - heres the players we have highlighted, here's the money, its only 7th july and BOOM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Spijed wrote:And you really think Tyrone Mings is a good player?

You can be as quiet as a mouse and under the radar sign 2-3 players good enough to strengthen your team. Look at the embarrassing Fulham last season - fecked their promotion winning team all over and signed pretty much a new first eleven - dropped like a hotpot. The most embarrassing relegation in the history of the Premier League and hope they stay down forever.

He suffered that bad leg injury and didn't look the same player again, so eventually Bournemouth loaned him out.
He's made 40 appearances in 4 years, Inc 15 in the championship and he's bizarrely been sold for up to £26 million dependent on clauses etc.
I know you like to have a sulk about our transfer business but banging out a **** over this deal is just stupid, even for you and this forum.

Re: Aston Villa - another BOOM !!!!!!!!!
Given the current prices £20m (not sure where the £25m has come from, all the stories seem to say £20m) for Mings doesn't seem unrealistic. Particularly as Villa have had him and know his ability
Re: Aston Villa - another BOOM !!!!!!!!!
They seem to be keen to keep the team that came up: El Ghazi signed on a permanent basis, Hause and now Mings.
TBH saw Mings play a few times last season and looked decent - yes, Championship I know - plus can play full-back or in the centre.

I think some people need to get how difficult it is for us to compete financially at this level?
Mings is at the very least a bit of a gamble, and a loose cannon, anyone who thinks we should be in the market for this type of player is dillusional.

Thats the whole point !!!!! 4th year on the trot in the premiership and we have no level ??? course we have a level so why not work cleverly and quicker in the level we can compete at even if that means lower championship, top end of division 1, etc etc whatever level we need to be at. We signed Andre Gray as a championship club in August 2015 for 9m - now 4 years on (3 as a premiership club with another season pending in premiership) we still have not got the measure of what level we should be looking at ?

One thing is for sure we have gone backwards because in theory if a Andre Gray came on the market now for 8-10m playing for a championship club we would not land him - why ? because we would alert the world first by a low unrealistic bid ad then get muscled out. A updated verson is the Che Adams situation we never got a sniff for a guy we were interested in 6 months ago and for a position we need to strengthen and a area we desperately needed to add some injection of pace.

Fee is more like £18m, rising to the headline figure if a load of extras are hit.

If he’s willing to shell out 25m on Mings, I would suggest Villa’s owner certainly has more money than sense.tiger76 wrote:The op does know Villa have an owner who's worth billions, this may just help their spending spree.
Also suggests we’re significantly undervaluing Tarkowski.
Re: Aston Villa - another BOOM !!!!!!!!!
We signed him for £6m - it only went up to £9m because of promotion.s6t9a2f3f wrote:Thats the whole point !!!!! 4th year on the trot in the premiership and we have no level ??? course we have a level so why not work cleverly and quicker in the level we can compete at even if that means lower championship, top end of division 1, etc etc whatever level we need to be at. The only club we were competing against was Bristol City from what I can remember...Brentford has agreed a deal to sell him to Brizzle.
He’d had a good season at Brentford but it wasn’t that long before that he was at Luton. We all know how raw he was so it was a gamble....a gamble that was a big factor in our promotion and one where we made a big profit on selling him.
Roll it forward to now and I reckon we’d be paying Brentford £12m to £15m and another few million if we got promoted (or avoided relegation from Premier League). That seems to be the going price for someone who had a decent 20 goal season with a bit of pace but for a bottom half championship team where it’s easier to be the stand out player.

If someone joined Burnley and had such an effect on the way to promotion, it'd be fair to say they were the reason we'd got promoted.
Re: Aston Villa - another BOOM !!!!!!!!!
I have never mentioned players that I feel are realistic / unrealistic, I mentioned Che Adams as a example as we were rumoured to be very interested in him in january, there was no talk back then of headlines like "burnley punching above weight by wanting to buy Che Adams" ??? not 6 months later and a premiership campaign ahead we suddenly are punching out of our depth ? or was the incapability to land the player in january just highlighted the player to several other clubs and we get muscled again come summer like whats happened.boatshed bill wrote:We just can't afford the players that supporters like you "need", we do not have the budget.

I have no problem with who we try/or bring in but we talk about levels and Manchester United have just bought a player from Swansea City so goodness knows where were looking to strengthen.

It’s funny how we bring up these facts when it’s us signing the players but most posters on here are happy to spout “Villa paying £25M for Mings” it’s more likely Villa are paying £17M for Mings but COULD pay up to £25M in the end of which I’m sure they hope they do end up paying because it would be clauses inserted like remain in the top division.TVC15 wrote:We signed him for £6m - it only went up to £9m because of promotion.
