Clearly mixed from the speculation thread but it is a small fee apparently and we've got an experienced international full back to compete with Charlie Taylor. More than good enough for me.

This seems like a good signing, do we know how 'small' the fee was? Seems like a good bit of business for a player who is an international for a very good national team (Holland are hardly Luxembourg are they?).

I was going to ask if you knew of any fee, likely minimal as you suggest so a no brainer. If we can get in someone to really push Cork then we should be good !

Sensible signing on the face of it. We have an experienced, but younger reserve left back who knows much of the squad already.

However, Dyche does need to start looking outside the box. He is constantly being labelled as a bit of a Pulis or Allerdyce outside of the club. In reality its a bit unfair. But he has effectively bought a left sided Bardsley. And that won't do Dyches image any good.

As a back up though looks a good signing. But our first 11 signings definitely need to be a bit more exciting!

Makes good sense -swap deal for Ward for a younger model

He's Dutch which will suit the internationalists - while also still sounding British (like a pub landlord) to suit the homegrowners :)

Happy with this

Minimal Fee
Only 30 (no age for a full back )
170 premier league appearances
3 years younger than our previous back up left back
18 or so international caps
Knows the league
No need to up route the family
Stoke fans rated him

If it means more cash available to strengthen the key areas we need, I'm all for it.

Welcome aboard Eric Peter's ;-)

No age for any modern player. Some of the comments on other threads are ridiculous.
As the salaries have increased and injuries are being treated faster and successfully more players, especially defenders, are stretching careers.

The reliable Stoke press, report initial fee as 1 million.... Good cheap deal.

So we get:
Six months of Crouch entertainment
Pieters
£8-9m (net)

They get:
Vokes and Ward

DEAL!

Stoke seem to play very fair with their longer serving players - we only paid £750,000 for Bardsley.

That seems ridiculously cheap at todays prices, is he still playing for Holland? 1m for a Dutch international, if still current, is a steal. Just been looking online and the Stoke fans don't seem too happy overall. General opinion is of a good club player who always gives 100%. One or two critical (as with all fans) but the concensus is that they have lost one of their better players.
One wit made me chuckle though saying he spends too much time waving to his wife in the stands. I can just imagine him doing that at our place and missing the ball, he would be missing both his if Dyche got hold of him after.

At some point we're going to have to start bringing the age of our squad down, instead of keeping patting ourselves on the back for signing all these 30 year olds.

We've replaced a 33 year old with a 30 year old, that seems like we've brought the age of the squad down to me.

So you would suggest persuading who else exactly to come in as our back-up LB? Or are you suggesting demoting Taylor to back up and spending circa 15m on a new 1st choice LB?

I think this deal works just fine

Didnt he have a bad injury ? Maybe on the wrong player. If fit he sounds ok to me. Jay Rod soon to follow from what I read on FB

JRod is 3 months older than Vokes - sack the board!!

But eight years younger than Crouch.....!

So that's a net 11 year squad age drop from the end of the season :)

Only today I read that Brentford have confirmed they have had no enquiries for him - I assume you mean Neal Maupay.

Pieters has played regular football for the last six years, no sign of any injury.

Talk is Villa trying sign Maupay but won't meet Brentfords price "yet"

Norwich, Villa and Sheff U all trying to out spend Fulham last season (That went well    )

Have to agree with this.

Completely fine signing as backup.

But after McNeil we have no other first team player under 25. Jay is only going to add to our squad of 30+ years players.

How many outfield players in our usual starting 11 are over 30? I make it none in fact Cork is the only one to have reached 30 so far I think. Doesn't sound too bad when you say it like that does it?

Or by the end of this season more than half of our usual starting 11 would be over 30, which sounds less good.

Yet more evidence that you struggle with numbers, replacing a 33 year old with a 30 year old is bringing the age of the squad down.

If it is indeed £1million, its a great price and good business.
However, I hope he's sat on his arse all season, cos that'll
mean Charlie will be having a stormer. :P
(Unless he's used elsewhere on the field.)

Our FA and League cup back 5 is now confirmed.
Pope
Bardsley, Long, Gibson, Pieters.
That's not a bad defensive lineup.

Perhaps we should get Alan Lee again for the return of Pieters and Lee
