Re: India v New Zealand
Looking like an interesting game this rather than a run-fest. There seems a bit of help for the bowlers and India have their all-rounder Pandya hampered with a niggle. If NZ can battle through to something like 250, their bowlers will have some hope at least.

Something you don’t see often.
NZ get 1, plus 1 for an overthrow, plus 1 from a second overthrow

Re: India v New Zealand
211-5 rain stopped play, that's a 1st this summer.thankfully they had the sense to grant a reserve day for both semi-finals and the final,so the game should be completed, but maybe not today.
If New Zealand can edge their way to 240 ish, they are still in this game, chasing seemingly low scores has proven awkward in this WC,plus the pressure of a semi-final can affect players in strange ways.

Re: India v New Zealand
Now New Zealand finished on 239-8,however India are already 5-2,Rohit and Kohli out cheaply, this will test the mettle of India's middle order.
I'm not sure what happened to the promised run fest, but these low scoring games are great fun.

That's what I like about cricket. Until both teams have batted you never really know if the first innings was a good score or not.

Set up for a cracking game now if India can rebuild.

Re: India v New Zealand
Trouble's one word for it,the advantage is they still have plenty of overs, they just need to get a partnership and settle down, RR shouldn't be a problem if they bat the 50 overs, vindicates New Zealand's cautious approach yesterday, which was heavily criticised at the time, this is turning into a fascinating WC,a real contest between bat and ball, hope this swing is still present in August,Jimmy will have a field dayFoulthrow wrote:Make that 5-3. Four down. Top quality catch from Neesham. One more wicket soon and this game has to be New Zealand’s.

Re: India v New Zealand
Holding Dhoni back as well. Sent Pandya in instead. And Ferguson yet to bowl.
Re: India v New Zealand
The win predictor only has NZ at 63%. Surely it’s 80 or 90% in Kiwi’s favour?

Host broadcasters not allowed to upset india.
Would expect the umpires call rule to be changed now it's worked against Kohli

India have a strong side.
No disrespect to the Kiwi's, who've got the best bunch of cricketers they've had in yonks, but they need to break this partnership pretty quickly.

Presumably more in NZ favour now but I'm not sure who takes a stab at these for Sky.he win predictor only has NZ at 63%. Surely it’s 80 or 90% in Kiwi’s favour?
When India got to 10-3 after about 5 overs, it was showing NZ 29/India 71. I cant see how chasing 240 you can be strongish favoutites at 10-3 with all your big scorers back in the pav.
If Dhoni masterminds a win here, he'll definitely deserve his demigod status.

If these two stick around for a while it could become interesting again,121 needed from 15 overs, the problem for India is the wickets column.
Re: India v New Zealand
Jadeja making a game of it here.
Re: India v New Zealand
Wasn’t it Tendulkar who insisted that India didn’t use DRS, presumably because he knew most umpires wouldn’t have the gumption to give him out lbw.Local cricketer wrote:Host broadcasters not allowed to upset india.

Cracking game to watch and Guptill was terrific with that bit of fielding He has struggled with the bat all through but his fielding rarely drops below standard and thsi has been the case again.
Australia v New Zealand final? I hope not -- but we have not been good under pressure!

Re: India v New Zealand
Terrific game, glad NZ won -partly because they were big underdogs & partly because I put a bet on them ahead of play at (I think) 7/2.
I wouldn't have been too upset if India won, though, I thought they did very well to almost pull it back; Dhoni run out by a couple of inches just about did for them in the end.
See if Kohli can be a good loser or he comes up with some excuses now.

Very entertaining that, well done to the kiwis, held their nerve well. Still fancied India until the run out.

If England make it I think I would have been more confident playing against India. We'd be big favourites against NZ, which I'm not sure really suits us.

Answering my own question... yes Kohli can be a good loser. His post match interview was very generous and no excuses even hinted at.

Re: India v New Zealand
Toss will be vital tomorrow, batting first and putting a score on the board for either side gives them a great chance, you're right about England under pressure,i wouldn't fancy us chasing any kind of total, equally the same could be applied to the Aussies,i don't know if it's the quality of bowling or the mindset, but nobody has looked confident chasing in this WC,add to that the pressure cooker of a semi-final,and you definitely want to be batting first.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote:Cracking game to watch and Guptill was terrific with that bit of fielding He has struggled with the bat all through but his fielding rarely drops below standard and thsi has been the case again.
Australia v New Zealand final? I hope not -- but we have not been good under pressure!
New Zealand will be dangerous opponents for whoever makes the final, they aren't expected to win so can just enjoy the day, whereas England/Australia will be big favourites, partly because they both demolished the Kiwi's in the group stage, but all that counts for nothing on the day.

Re: India v New Zealand
At one point yesterday in the NZ innings Ross Taylor was being urged by the dressing room to "get on with it" but he signalled back that it was "too difficult". This was picked up by the Sky commentary team who said that it was not giving much confidence to the later batsmen. But it showed how difficult it was to score on such a slow pitch. Many of the pitches have been too slow making it almost impossible to chase down even a modest score, as England have found out already more than once in this tournament.
Whichever team wins the toss tomorrow and bats first will be firm favourites to win the match.

Not sure about that. The team who bats second tomorrow are likely to have a reduced target to chase. High chance of rain from mid afternoon onwards....

Dhoni didn’t seem right to me. Let an awful lot of 2s slip away, possible leg injury?
I preferred an NZ win anyway so I’m not complaining.

Similar to the other semi-final,weather may impact, but don't forget there's a reserve day if required.Cubanclaret wrote:Not sure about that. The team who bats second tomorrow are likely to have a reduced target to chase. High chance of rain from mid afternoon onwards....
On balance i'd still rather bat first, risky gambling on the elements.
England have won every game in which they've batted first in this WC,so if you get the option, why change a winning formula.
The good omen is the Aussies have a terrible record at Edgbaston, certainly compared to Lords.
