Both signings great business by the club.
Low fees and two year deals with a third year option in the clubs favour.
The right way to sign a 30/31 year old.
Now a decent midfielder and I would be happy.

I saw him earlier. He was about to chuck himself in the canal, due to us not signing any players still in their teens for extortionate fees!

Great signing, he adds quality, experience and adaptability to our forward roles.
All the sweeter because he's Burnley born and bred.
Welcome home, Jay!

Don’t think we’ll see any shortage of effort. He will be desperate to do well. I don’t think we have a player like him and his link up play will help us.
Re: ARTICLE: One of our own has made his way home
Intelligent player with good technique. Complements our strike force and should work well in any combination. Really pleased to have him back

How is Dwight McNeil "one of our own"? He was born in Rochdale and came through the Manchester United youth set up before he was picked up by our academy?

We can say "I'd rather we'd signed [insert name of player]" but I'm delighted to see Jay come back home.
To my mind, he brings us something different up top. Love Barnsey and Chris Wood but, IMHO, Jay is technically better than them and - and I really liked him - Sam (yes, I know he's gone ). The trio of forwards (I don't know what the situation is with Matej Vydra) we now have is, again in my humble opinion, the best we've had for some time.
Really looking forward to seeing Jay back in Claret and Blue.

He played in our youth team to be fair and was with us for two years before that. Having said that, I always thought it was chanted to Jay because he was from Burnley.burnleybassman wrote:How is Dwight McNeil "one of our own"? Re: ARTICLE: One of our own has made his way home
There's something very nice about "one of our own" coming home, but more importantly, he's a good player who will add something we don't really have.
I think he'll prove to be the sort of natural "link-up" striker that we've really lacked since Ings left (Vydra having not quite stepped up to the plate last season), capable of dropping into midfield and both receiving the ball facing the opposition goal to drive at defenders and playing with his back to goal, knitting the game together. Suspect we'll find he's got a surer touch, a better range of passing and a touch more craft and composure to help unpick a stubborn defence than Barnes offers (for all his many qualities) when playing in that role, and as a result he'll offer something a bit different regardless of which of Barnes, Wood or even Vydra he ends up playing off.
We've now got a tidy quartet of strikers, so unless we're shipping players out I suspect that's us done in that department - but with a bit of luck there's still a bit of work to be done (both in and out) in midfield to add a bit more youth, and a bit of craft and/or athleticism. If we can do that, and keep hold of everyone else, it'll have been a good summer.

After weeks and week of moaning about no signings, we make what is in my opinion a great signing and all some posters can do is bicker over the legitimacy of him being one of our own. **** me, there are some dickheads on here. Grow up.

Re: ARTICLE: One of our own has made his way home
The key question for me is how are we defining “one of our own”
1. Born in Burnley
2. Through the youth system
3. Supports Burnley?
4. A combination of at least two to make it legit.

Re: ARTICLE: One of our own has made his way home
Excellent signing.
Skill, experience, devotion & fan appreciation. Ticks all the boxes.
Thank the lord we have signed him rather than Crouch.
The football will be far far better just having him in the squad as he is a football player.
If we keep hold of Dwight & Tarks that will be a successful window.

I was wondering the same. When are we likely to get news on teams. It's been a tough decision which to go to for me. Re: ARTICLE: One of our own has made his way home
Signing of Jay just called a boring transfer on TalkSport.
Have we given Matt Holland major pelters at some point? He never says anything positive about us.
They asked for most boring transfers, I said Jagielka to Blades coz they had just been biggin up Wilders.
I know I shouldn't listen but my daughter is watching Love Island.

They’d no option. There was a clause in his contract that said he could go for £10m. It only triggered if they didn’t go up and it would have run out this weekend.Juan Tanamera wrote:What concerns me in Jay's transfer is why WBA are being so reasonable.
