They never said where the moon landings were filmed.

I presume the set has long since been dismantled.

1. With a high power telescope you can see the equipment left behind.
2. Do you think the USSR would have rolled over and accepted ‘false landings’ when they were desperate to be first themselves?

No-one has ever been back because the moon is made of cheese and we have enough cheese on earth. When we run out of cheese we will have a war over who owns the moon and which of our many Gods should be worshipped for creating it.

One for all the conspiracy nut jobs, is it just the first landing which is a hoax, or all six of them?

BBC Panorama did an April 1st Spaghetti Tree spoof in the 50's.

Why would a Granada spoof men on mars prove men did not land on the moon :D

One of several events in my lifetime I am so pleased to have 'witnessed' during the worldwide coverage.

If your life flashes before you as you check out, my memorable moments will far outweigh the rubbish times.

Thanks for reminding me about this. I'll catch up on the iPlayer.

They were brave men - all of them who went on the Apollo missions, from test pilots to moon landings. Can you imagine what it must be like to have utter loonbags coming up to them and trying to make them swear on the Bible - basically calling these brave men liars?

This is what Buzz did to one persistent attention seeking idiot for calling him a coward, a lier and a thief. Good on him!

Theres also a good BBC podcast, '13 minutes to the moon' that goes into incredible detail about amongst other things, the rockets and technology.

One thing I didn't really know was that by the time the Soviets had launched sputnik, the US was trailing and they needed a project that was even on paper, so far in advance of what the Soviets had achieved, it just nullified their advantage - essentially even with Sputnik the Soviets were no nearer landing on the moon than the US.

I have heard many people doubting the moon landings mate but I have never heard anyone questioning 9/11 as actually happening. The only doubt over that seems to be who did it (I'll not start a whole other debate on that one). As for the moon landings that is quite a common conspiracy with many logical sounding arguments but I watched, what I think was, the landings and feel that there is no doubt in my mind. I have said for years that they happened, at least initially, at the hight of the cold war and the Russians would no doubt have been monitoring the whole thing. Perhaps I'm being niaive but is it not safe to assume that if nothing took off and left for the moon (and returned) the Russians would have been shouting to all who would listen 'Hold on, nothing has left the earth for the moon. We have been watching this carefully and we can definitely say without any doubt that this is a massive piece of propaganda by the imperialist dogs' (or words to that effect). For me the silence of the Russians on this is proof that it did actually happen.

Or maybe I'm just being romantic and want it to have happened. ;)

What were the first words spoken on the moon? The answer by the way is not obvious.

I just know someone is going to come on here and say 'Why would they say 'obvious' anyway'? Ha ha - got in before you.

"Contact" or "Shutdown" depending on when you consider they were on the surface.

If you liked this you should seek out Apollo 11 the recent feature length documentary using exclusively archive footage (in some cases unseen ) and original audio.

Most people think it was 'The Eagle has landed' but in fact it was, apparently, 'the red light is on' or some such stuff, followed by 'the Eagle has landed'.

Boss I think you were nearest with 'some technical stuff'. I particularly like Sausage's 'we appear to have landed at Ewood Park' apart from the fact that there is actually more atmosphere on the moon.

Some quick digging:

The “first word spoken on the Moon” depends on just when you consider the landing to have taken place. If it’s at the point when any portion of Eagle touches the lunar surface, then this happens at 102:45:40, and the first word spoken is “contact.” If we mean the first word spoken after Eagle is stable on the lunar surface, then it would be around 102:45:43, and might have been any in the sequence of “Okay, engine stop” or “ACA out of detent.” And if it’s the first word spoken after Armstrong and Aldrin believed themselves to be finished with all the immediate tasks associated with the landing, then the first word spoken would probably be “Houston.”

I always thought it was the "Okay" line.

HA ha Boss, you Googling thing you. This all goes to show that it is now impossible to have a question and answer session on a forum because Google is the answer to everything. However, thanks for clearing that up.

The last time I took part in a pub quiz was in fact the last time I will ever take part in one - why? - because half the pub was Googling answers under the table. On here is slightly different because there is nothing to prove but I think cheating at a pub quiz is either A) desperation for a few bob or B) trying to win when you are only cheating yourself. Cheating for money is one thing and I can at least understand that but cheating at a game of fun is, to me, utterly pointless.

Please note that the above tirade against cheating is not aimed at my good mate Boss who, if I remember rightly, was a locksmith and therefore has to be above reproach (or a very successful burglar  ).

By the way Boss, do you agree with me that 'pig rearing' sounds like a very questionable pastime?

We have beaten the googlers in our pub quiz... its snakes and ladders and the correct answers are moves on the board...
Same snakes and ladders board every week .. but people are not told how many in each round and we have a random starting point from -2 to +2 lol...
Question sheets handed out and teams given an hour to fill in their answers, sheets swapped for marking.
The googlers soon worked out getting every question right not always a good idea.... brilliant fun and when people hit the snakes its hilarious hearing the cheers and boos....6 to 8 (sometimes 10) teams most weeks...

Have never contemplated 'rearing a pig' ;) .
