Old Burnley Images
Burnley Civic Trust inherited the Burnley Express archive some time ago and volunteers have been busy digitising articles and photographs for public viewing on their website. There are articles of interest to Burnley residents, including a number of Clarets stories and photographs from the last 50-60 years. The collection is being added to on a daily basis. http://www.bcthic.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Re: Old Burnley Images
The projects doing a great job in digitising the images and a short film of their work can be seen here.

Re: Old Burnley Images
Ok, I'll start with Mellor, Kindon, Nulty, Ray Ternent & Merrington.
Re: Old Burnley Images
Sorry, I missed the picture in the link!
In addition I see in the big picture Bellamy, Smith, West, Kindon, Dobbo, Waldron, Thomson, Latcham.
I downloaded it and was then able to enlarge it - it's good quality. I don't recognise many of the younger players.

Arthur Bellamy(sat on ball), Mick Doc, John Murray, Les Latcham, Fred Smith(sat on ball), Eric Probert, Dobo, Colin Waldron, Brian O'Neil and Dave Wilson( behind O'Neil)
Re: Old Burnley Images
That's Waldron behind O'Neil isn't it?
Jim Thomson I think is behind Kindon - you can just see the back of his head.
Where's Eric Probert and Geoff Nulty?

Ralphy is in one of the other pictures along with, at a guess, Smith, Latcham, Bellamy and Angus.
And below is Angus and Waldron - surely that's not a young Geoff Nulty between them?

Re: Old Burnley Images
Who are the three players to Doc's left?
Next to Peter Mellor is number 3 and behind him, is that Rodney Jones?

And could that be Frank Casper's ear behind Merrington!

Re: Old Burnley Images
Apparently Peter Mellor had just been signed from Witton Albion and he appears to be the only keeper in the squad.
In fact Mellor played every league game in the '69/'70 seasn and all the Cup games.

Re: Old Burnley Images
I'm pretty sure Rodney Jones was at the club then. I never saw him play though and in those days of one substitute I don't recall ever seeing him.

Re: Old Burnley Images
Hipper, Rodney Jones was here from '67 to '71 during which time he played just 9 league games.Hipper wrote:I'm pretty sure Rodney Jones was at the club then. I never saw him play though and in those days of one substitute I don't recall ever seeing him.
8 of those were in the '68/'69 season but he did not feature at all in the '69/'70 season.

Re: Old Burnley Images
Aye he did a few, late 80s/early 90s, but his last appearance was in 2003, I've got a bronze cast of his hands on my wall from the day.Hipper wrote:Didn't he do something at Turf Moor once?

Re: Old Burnley Images
Been looking for a photo of Rodney Jones, as I don’t remember him.
Came across this Rotherham team photo for 1967. Not sure if that is him, the keeper, but a very handsome chap, kneeling in front of the keeper. Edit: I’ve since found a photo of Jones in The Complete Clarets Collection. In the 69-70 squad. That is not him in the Rotherham line up.

Re: Old Burnley Images
A very young and slim Frank Casper there, Trevor!.......Must have been one the last photos he had with Rotherham as he came to us in June 1967.
Have we named all the players in the pic now, I think there are 23 in total. Perhaps ClaretTony can fill in any gaps?
There was another Jones played once that season, this time Peter, and remarkably we used 27 players in total in the league that season 1969/70.

Have we got the player between John Murray and Alan West? I think it is possibly Len Kinsella.

I think you're spot on, Len Kinsella it is........He only played one game that season but was very much a part of the squad.Tricky Trevor wrote:Peter Jones hadn’t been mentioned previously but he is to Ray Ternents left.

The problem is the photo is not exactly the clearest but maybe all the players have now been named.
It still leaves perhaps 4 players involved that season that do not appear to be on the photo.
Re: Old Burnley Images
Notice it’s the Cricket Field Stand’s 50th birthday three weeks today. Shall we have a whip round and get it something? Anyone any ideas for a present?
Re: Old Burnley Images
I downloaded the photo to my desktop then was able to enlarge it (using 'CTRL' and '+' together or on Windows 10 there is a '+' button and slider on the picture viewer). The photo is pretty sharp when you do this.Royboyclaret wrote:I think you're spot on, Len Kinsella it is........He only played one game that season but was very much a part of the squad.
