First game of the season tomorrow?

When announcing the tour to Portugal, the club explicitly stated there was no game taking place there.

In an interview with Mark Howard today, he states there is a game tomorrow (Friday), which would make sense, given how light the training session was.

So, which is it? First game tomorrow, or Crewe/Port Vale?

It's either a lie in the first place, or it's another incorrect thing/mistake/bungling from the club's amateurish media team....

It is possible it’s both

The Crewe/Port Vale games are the first “public” games but it is more than likely that they have arranged a “behind closed doors” game whilst out in Portugal

For a start, I don't think the arranging of games is the responsibility of the media team and I'm sure there is a chance that there will be games taking place behind closed doors, potentially in Portugal and also back home, prior to the season starting. Are you having a laugh accusing someone of telling a lie?

Don’t tell him the team played 11 v 11 in training yesterday. He might spiral into depression because he’s already missed the first game of the season.

Other teams will be in Portugal training, would it not make sense to have a 90 min workout against one of them

I'm pretty sure it won't be a 'lie'.

The club have realised they accidentally scheduled the Crewe and Port Vale games on the same day and so have flown Port Vale out to the Algarve all expenses paid so the game can go ahead. £10 a ticket but no pay on the gate, i'm told.

Not having a laugh at all. Sheffield Wednesday went to train in the Algarve, had a game at a local ground and even welcomed their fans. It’s more than possible and there’s clearly the facilities to put one on.

We made a point of stating in the article about pre-season plans that there was no game in Portugal. If there is one, then that was untrue, otherwise known as a lie. They didn’t have to say that, could have not said anything, but chose to deliberately say there wasn’t one.

If there is one, think it’s quite poor form to actively discourage fans from coming, and not to make it public if there are the facilities to do it. Away from that though, if there is going to be a behind closed doors game, then just say that, rather than there is no game.

There is no game being played for spectators to attend. No one has told any lies Tom. As I said further up the thread, we play a good number of games every year behind closed doors when the manager considers it appropriate. If we are playing one in Portugal then it is no different. We haven't actively discouraged anyone from going, there is no game for them to watch.

Sheffield Wednesday have their own plans, we have ours. Doesn't make one right and one wrong, it is the decision of the managers at those two clubs.

According to Fulhams Academy Director interviewed on Talksport today - we (BFC) have a friendly against Fulham tonight.

As above. The managers will have come to an arrangement. Possibly two separate sides for 45mins a piece. They could have triallists playing who they want to hide away. There are any number of reasons not to open the gates.

I can only imagine anyone stressing about a pre-season friendly has never been to watch a pre-season friendly. Before 10 August I couldn't care less what they're doing.

Birmingham City are out there training. I've heard they have a lad upfront called Juke we could have a look at.

Better look away Tom ;)

Burnley 1 Fulham 0.

Chris Wood is on target as the Clarets end their Portuguese training camp with a win over the Cottagers in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Or maybe someone (along with others) who fancies a trip to the Algarve with the added bonus of seeing their team play. Just like those who have enjoyed Austria, Italy, Ireland etc for the same reason over past years.
