Lancashire v Sussex - County Championship

Post by jdrobbo » Sat Jul 13, 2019 1:06 pm

Back at Old Trafford and having lost the toss, Lancs have been asked to bowl first.

Good start for RedRose, with Sussex now at 93-5

Three wickets for Maxwell and two for Parkinson. Interesting that these guys are in the wickets sicearly in the game!

Ps. How strange that county championship games are taking place on World Cup Final weekend. But not only that, England A are also in action, this stripping even more quality from around the counties.

Just imagine FIFA World Cup Final day with a full fixture list in League One and League Two....it just wouldn’t happen!

Sussex - the first team we beat in those Gillette Cup finals with Jack Bond as captain - how fitting that we play them today and how fitting it would be to beat them for Jack.

They are now 98/8. Maxwell has 4/27 & Parkinson has 4/12. Not bad given they were 77 without loss.

10 wickets to spinners on first day, somewhat unusual, where has Parki been the rest of this season?

Lancashire 32 without loss but Jordan, a big player for Sussex, has gone off with what looks like a knee injury. Hope he’s ok.

Hopefully pass Sussex's total still with no wkts down- that's always humiliating for the opposition.

Reckon Jack would be ok with that effort today.
It's a very strange looking card though, for a first day.

Very strange today. They went from 77/0 to 95/8 and you think there might be some concerns with the wicket but then we get 149/1.

Good day for us - Jack would be proud

Glen Maxwell didn't make the Aussies 25 man preliminary squad for the Ashes. So Lancs will have him until the end of the season. He'll be great in the T20 Blast.

Much better from the Red Rose,IDK what happened in that mad hour after lunch, but we need to push on tomorrow and get a big lead, then leave it to the spinners i guess.

Good effort from Jennings,i still can't see England calling yet though, which is to Lancs benefit.

Glen Maxwell didn't have a great WC,but he can change a T20 game in a rapid time, another plus for the side,it would be fitting to lift a one-day trophy to mark Jack Bond's passing.

Been to Lancs today and bumped into lakedistrictclaret.

I had a look at the pitch at lunch and it seems a cracker. It is the one that was used for the semi final of the World Cup.

Lancs already have their maximum bowling points and if they can accelerate the batting scoring rate can hopefully gain a few of those too.

Good to see you again tybfc.
Apart from the first hour and a quarter, Lance in total control today.
We should be looking for the maximum 24 points from thus one, which would almost guarantee promotion.

Forgot to keep track with this one while the Lords game was on. Nice to see where weve got to & the 4th batting point should be on- though the 5th is probably just out of reach. Still 7+ sessions left so loads of time to get 16 points for the win.
Got to get this promotion in the bag, I want to see Lancs down my two local grounds again next year (Oval & Southampton).

I still think it’s weird from 77/0 to collapse like that.

Lancs 371/5 at tea. Hameed apart, every batsman has got a half century. Fifth wicket just gone.

If the weather stays fair we should be able to wrap this up tomorrow, shame about Hameed but the rest all contributed, plenty of runs for our spinners to work with.

Weather forecast great for tomorrow. There will be lots of spin on offer I guess.

If it was turning during the first session on day one it will surely do on days 3 & 4.
