I know it wasn't a friendly but West Auckland FC being "World cup" Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy winners in 1909 and 1911 beating Juventus 6-1 in the final

Didn't Burnley once play Dynamo Kiev in pre- season but it turned out to not be THE Dynamo Kiev ? I'll admit my memory is a bit hazy

Once played at Folkestone in a tournament with QPR, Maidstone and Folkestone - one match had to be abandoned due to floodlight failure.

I went. Maybe 1998 or so? Might be later, maybe post promotion in 2000? I'd never heard of the gremio before, nevermind the one that showed up. I think we won 2-0? No away fans. Night match I think. I was very young and/or drunk at the time...

Not sure the game I have in mind was pre season, but weren't we beaten in Spain or Majorca, by a team, which included the hotels waiters, while Frank Casper was manager.

It was in the pre season of the Waddle campaign. It was a Tuesday night and we played in our yellow away kit. Can’t remember the scorer but Paul Barnes missed a penalty.

First appearance on the Turf for Chris Waddle as Burnley manager in 1997. We were all impressed with how well we played against a top side who turned out to be not much more than a pub team.

Michael Williams' best performance in a Burnley shirt.

What on earth was he doing at Burnley? He didn't even resemble a professional footballer.

I still remain bamboozled by his fantastic goal at Luton that season in the 3-2 win that featured Grezza scoring twice for Luton, one while Marlon Beresford wasn't bothering in goal.

Michael Williams had played Premier League football for Sheffield Wednesday - that is the most baffling thing of all.
