Bob Entwistle - a second Lancashire cricketer dies
Bob Entwistle was a young opening batsman for Burnley in the Lancs League when my dad first took me but he was quickly snapped up by Lancashire.
His claim to fame was becoming the first batsman ever to get out in one day cricket back in 1963 when he opened for Lancs against Leicestershire in the Gillette Cup. He was first out and it was hit wicket.
He also played for Cumberland and then became a pro in the Northern League for such as Fleetwood, Netherfield and Darwen.
For years now he’s been a regular at Turf Moor watching Burnley but sadly passed away this week at the age of 77.

He was a good player and I remember his few seasons at Burnley when I was scoring for Church. He always seemed to score runs against us in the few games he played before he went on to the County.
RIP Bob Entwistle
RIP Bob Entwistle

It was a shock when I saw this tonight. Doesn’t seem so long ago that I saw him.
Always used to sit with Barry Foster, John Brunton & John Richardson at Burnley games. We always referred to them sat in the same place as being the commentary box, four old players talking about the game.

Bob Entwistle brings back memories of Burnley cricket, I also remember Neil Whalley. As for Frank Saul, didn’t he also teach geography? Ya, I attended Towneley

Neil Whalley is another who was in that early Burnley team I saw. He's very definitely fit and well, saw him in town just a few weeks ago.
