Paul Stewart was just **** poor. I can forgive a player for not being quite good enough but trying. Not trying is inexcusable ( regardless of what else is going on off the pitch). The plain facts are he didn’t try in a BFC shirt which makes him my worst player ever ( probably after Tony Hancock and D Jones Mk 1 ) and I’ve see some dross ones who did at least try.

Liam Robinson. Taking everything into consideration. We broke our transfer record back then to sign him. However for me it was poor business and the fee was never justified, there were always better options I thought.

Re: Most over rated Burnley player. (EVER)
JBG is a good player. Carries the ball well which takes the team up the pitch, works hard, chips in with the odd goal, which I’m sure he’d like to do more of also. You’d do well to find a better winger than him these days for the money we paid for him.
Re: Most over rated Burnley player. (EVER)
JBG is a good player but he doesn’t exactly get the heart racing too often, always thought he looks slow on the ball for a winger and his assist and goal ratio is average at best.
Wasn’t he linked with a big Italian side? One one the Milan clubs? This would certainly qualify him as being over rated.
For the record I do rate him but he’s no world beater.

Re: Most over rated Burnley player. (EVER)
Also Ashley Barnes being linked to Chelsea a couple of years ago for me puts him in the over rated bracket too.
David Jones probably one of the most under rated players in recent Burnley history along with Ben Mee (not by us but other fans).

Defour - hull, united ,Bristol are the only times he's done anything.
Joe hart - try's to make a spectacular save when he could make a simple one. When he was at west ham we all knew he was rubbish but when he came here loads of people were buzzing saying another England keeper woo hoo. He's the reason for our bad results start of last season.

Jon Walters by a country mile. Dogsh*t and passed it but the way people talk about him on here you'd think he was an injury away from being the Burnley Messi

He sounds terrible. Can I ask if you were one that was calling for Dyche’s head when Hendrick was in the team playing on the RW when JBG was on the bench.OssyClaret wrote:In my view I don’t think you are too far wrong with JBG. Certainly nowhere near the worst we’ve had but overrated, possibly,
Reading this thread, he is clearly ‘rated’ by many but his quantifiable contribution is pretty bang average.
He doesn’t score or assist.
Doesn’t have pace.
Very rarely beats his man.
Not so sure he’s great defensively.
I can’t think what his main attribute is if I’m totally honest, it’s certainly not his numbers.
I wasn’t aware that JBG arrived with that much hype he has the tag of our most over rated player of all time. We payed £3mil for him from a side that had just been related to League 1.
Re: Most over rated Burnley player. (EVER)
Good as he can be he's definitely not the best player to play for the Clarets since the last Campionship side.BurnleyFC wrote:Going off some of the posts idolising him - Steven Defour, sadly.
I’ve even seen posts on here saying he’s the best player to have played for us since we last won the league
Re: Most over rated Burnley player. (EVER)
interesting this about JBG. I watch him and think he has a schoolboy mentality at times. He often calls for the ball in ridiculous situations. He does have some skill though and hopefully he will improve.

Some clear fishing hear and a fair few bites, JBG and the midfielder David Jones come on really!!!
I remember the fanfare when we signed Wayne Thomas and the bigger fanfare when we got shut at profit, too think Cotterill gatecrashed the Thomas family holiday in Florida desperate to sign him says how much we rated him and what a coup it was supposed to be for the club.

Re: Most over rated Burnley player. (EVER)
How about the young lad John Cofie? Moved at 16 to united for a million, think I saw a poster saying he was in non league football now?
After watching Steve Jones debut (when I think he scored 2 against QPR?) I thought he'd be a real player for us, he was bobbins after that.
The mentions of David Jones, Barnes and JBG are ridiculous.

Most other football fans I speak to who dont support Burnley have McNeil as our best player so does that mean he's over rated by rest of the football world?
Re: Most over rated Burnley player. (EVER)
Surprised to see some people say JBG who I think is a decent player, same with Barnes and Jones. All of them signed for next to nothing from similar or worse teams and all of them contributed to our recent success.
I always thought Chris Eagles was a bit overrated, he was a very good player on his day but didn't have them often enough. For someone who came from United with good pedigree and cost more than we could afford at the time I'd argue he fits the billing more than any of the three above.

Barnes shouldn't be referred to as overrated in any shape or form, think back to his brilliant (and crucial) goals for us.
His battling spirit isn't some irrelevance either, I wish every player we had was as determined. I really rate him, so I am biased, but cannot imagine why anybody would claim he should be in this category.

Based purely on over-rated. Terry Cochrane. The Longside drooled over him cos he beat 1,2,3 etc., men and then he crossed it into the Beehole.
I once heard Uwe screaming at the bench to “get that f*cker off” against Wolves in a cup match.
Must thank him for that winner at Deadwood though, a magical memory.

Steve Daley has to be up there. Saw absolutely nothing of the player that had commanded £1m a few years earlier. Remember him being more than decent for Wolves, decent for City and utter dross for us.expoultryboy wrote:Steve Daly
Mark Ford was highly rated by Waddle, there was excitement I remember when we took him from Leeds, as he was being bigged up as on the point of breaking into the first team... to say it never happened for him is being generous.
Gerry Gow takes some beating, there where some fans in the lower Cricketfield who could have been more mobile in midfield by the time we got him.

Not my memory of Cochran’s tbh... thought he was another off our seemingly endless supply of world class (at the time) wingers. He maybe wasn’t off the top shelf like some of our former stars, admittedly but there were some bloody big boots to fill.Tricky Trevor wrote:Based purely on over-rated. Terry Cochrane. When Bikey arrived it was a great signing, his little paddy when getting sent off in the play off only added to the fun. He was maverick and that is why Clarets took to him. By the time he left I don’t think many were sorry to see him go, as it was clear he’d spilt over into madness. I don’t think he was over rated at any point in between tbh.

He was a big fat lazy liability who didn't give a toss. Never understood his popularity with fans. Some used to gasp and then applaud when he hit a 60 yard cross field ball that bounced off the Bob lord stand wall.elwaclaret wrote:Hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Andre Bikey was abit over rated by some Burnley fans.
On his 100% focused days, yes he looked outstanding (which were like 1 a season)
Remember one Tuesday night at Doncaster away, Burnley fans were chanting Bikey's name... while an obvious overweight Bikey was warming up down the side lines
