Could really do with breaking this partnership up now
I fancy Wokes to do the damage 84 for 1

Re: England v New Zealand
I think the issue is the slope more than anything else. 2 and a half metres over the length of a cricket pitch is a big slope. It just suits bowlers from other countries better tbh and offsets the English conditions that suit our bowlers. The fact that our best bowler of all time hasn’t got a preference of end after all his years of playing says it all.
We should schedule a final for one of our preferred grounds like Edgbaston. You just can’t do that because of the history of Lords as the home of cricket but with home advantage it should be just that.

Re: England v New Zealand
Michael Clarke just took the words out of my mouth, between now and 30 overs will be crucial to the outcome I feel, New Zealand heading for a 300 score which I feel in a chase in a World Cup Final the pressure may get to us, stating the obvious but we need 2/3 wickets and quickly to shake them up a bit

If they get 300, we will be struggling I would think at Lord’s.claretburns wrote:Michael Clarke just took the words out of my mouth, between now and 30 overs will be crucial to the outcome I feel, New Zealand heading for a 300 score which I feel in a chase in a World Cup Final the pressure may get to us, stating the obvious but we need 2/3 wickets and quickly to shake them up a bit

Re: England v New Zealand
I tend to think that as England play at Lords more frequently, we should be able to adapt better than opposition teases who may only play there every four years. If anything it should be seen as a positive home advantage.claret wizard wrote:Hussain was explaining that Jimmy hadn’t worked out what his best end was at Lords. Our win rate is really low. Even with a home advantage the slope puts so many variables into the game that we struggle to master it. Similar to a poor pitch at football. It’s harder to play on and acts as an equaliser between good and poor teams. Even a poor bowler will get something out of the Lords pitch. When you talking in very small % difference between the teams, the slope can drag a good bowler down and push a good bowler up (or visa versa). But it’s a variable that could be removed. So hence my comment on the sloppy pitch being an equaliser.
I think there are other contributing factors to our poor record there, most significantly the number of “five-day” pitches prepared, which offer little to the bowler and take away our “English conditions” advantage. Remember when Sri Lanka batter for about two days to save a game a few years ago?
I would also add the Home of Cricket factor and sterile atmosphere to that.
Edit: Jimmy’s record at Lords isn’t too shabby so I don’t think not knowing his best has hampered him. If anything it is that he is very good from both ends but he he’s just not sure which of the two is best.

That's a massive wicket for England. I don't think that umpire wants England to win.

Taylor’s another key player. Early wicket for him would be massive.

For example "I'd like to review that decision because I believe I got bat on it"TheFamilyCat wrote:Not sure what you mean by that but is a bowler allowed to ask an umpire if they think s batsmen has got an edge before reviewing a LBW?
For example a bowler may feel a batter is plumb LBW but knowing why an umpire had given it not out would they may think fair enough and not waste a review.
Nothing OTT, just a reason why they disagree with the decision made. Give us an idea what the other day went through Bairstows mind

It’d certainly be interesting to know why (e.g. Bairstow, Guptil today and any in Broad’s career!). Not sure what it would add as a rule though.Bangers&Mash wrote:For example "I'd like to review that decision because I believe I got bat on it"

Miles better from Plunkett, hopefully the other England bowlers follow suit.
Stokes must have an injury but seems to be running round the outfield ok? Would have thought he might suit this pitch.

After stopping a shot earlier looked like he had a calf injury but he was sprinting fine when stopping that 4 a couple of overs ago.RVclaret wrote:Miles better from Plunkett, hopefully the other England bowlers follow suit.
