Malinovskyi & Maehle

These are the two players Alan Nixon has linked us with this morning. Both play in Belgium for Genk, Malinovsky (midfielder) is a Ukranian international while Maehle (right back) is a Danish under-21 international.

I did say I had another article written - it is one of these two, although I was led to believe he was going to Atalanta which is why I said I didn't think I'd be using it.

Midfielder is what we need and a young right back ready to replace Bardsley next summer would be great business so on paper this sounds good

Nice to see that we are extending our scouting network into Europe, well at least Belgium anyway. You've got to start somewhere.

That's what I thought.

This is what Nixon has written:

BURNLEY are setting up a £7million swoop for Denmark Under-21 ace Joakim Maehle.

Boss Sean Dyche is being pushed to sign the right-back by his scouts, who have sent back glowing reports on the Genk defender.

Maehle, 22, was a standout in Belgian football last season and followed it up with some good shows in the U21 European Championships.

Burnley want a young right-back and Maehle has leapt to the top of their list.

And his Genk team-mate, Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, 26, is also catching the Clarets' eye.

Belgium sources claim they could be heading for Turf Moor in a double deal worth £19m.

Burnley are also considering a surprise move for Leeds’ goalscoring midfielder Mateusz Klich.

However, there is a split in the camp about how much to offer for the Pole, 29, who was in fine form last season.

Actually watched a few Genk games last season. I could definitely see both making the step up to the Premier League.

Genk had quite a few interesting players. I hope our scouts took note of Junya Ito whilst they were there, I think he'd be a really good fit - Trossard took the headlines but I think Ito is the better all round winger and would definitely be a Dyche type player (never stops running, not afraid to get stuck in).

The good news is that the club seem to have got the message that we need a cm that starts. Otherwise it would be a bit mad tbh.

Any idea on the fee we was paying if he did sign ?

You would hope that the Premier league and possibly a bigger weekly wage would be more attractive to him, although arent Atlanta in the CL this season

Both look good players but if we’re going to Belgium for a midfielder the I’d love us to look at Hans Vanaken at Brugge - 45 goals and 45 assists in 170 games for them ... only 25 ... and would cost the same as Malinovskyi.

I always find it exciting when we're linked with relatively obscure players from abroad, despite the fact that our record isn't great. But there's always the chance that one turns out to be a bargain and an absolute world-beater. You never know!

Have we every singed anybody from a foreign club that’s worked out?

All the foreigners that we do sign and have “fitted straight in” are from British clubs so the settling in period has already been done

He won’t be signing for Atlanta. He might end up at Atalanta, mind.

I was hoping we were going for a right back this summer, so this pleases me. Nothing against Lowton or Bardsley as both have done well for us but I think it’s an area we can and should look to be upgrading.

The midfield interest is nice confirmation of what we all knew - our big money and big target this summer had to be a central midfielder. Let’s hope that if this is the guy Dyche has identified that we have perhaps hijacked it late on?

I know Youtube doesn't give great visibility into a players strengths, but from those two clips they both look ideal. Speed on the break would massively add to our arsenal in games.

It’s a little more exciting when unknown players are linked with the club. Which makes it a tad disappointing that one of the targets it’s actually signing for Atalanta today.

Hopefully we get the deal for the right back done though if indeed he is as good as the scouts are saying

Been changed again although Westwood is 18. That’s the problem with wiki, it should be a brilliant resource.

For most uses it is Tony. I quite often start with Wiki when beginning research. It is a brilliant starting point for deeper research.

The problem with pop culture is the need for people to be seen as in the know... we know that from this board, just imagine some of our fans when they realise they can see their name up in lights the world over as being the first to post the latest news / rumour.

For other subjects it’s a goldmine.

I expect we’re trying to tie the two to beat Atalanta, but they sound like favourites. Still, all to play for until it’s made official.

And Maupay sat out Brentford’s game today due to ‘interest from several premier league clubs’. Seems like that one might be concluded sometime soon.
