Re: Maguire goes to United
Utd need to sort out their CM issues whilst they're at it.
Maguire and Lindelof could be a decent pairing, but we shall see.
Meanwhile they've got Jones and Smalling sat there on relatively new contracts haven't they?

Correct. Tarks is right side and Maguire is left.Rileybobs wrote:Does anybody outside of Burnley consider Tarkowski to be better than Maguire? There is a reason why he is chosen to start for England and why he is being signed by Manchester United.
It was mentioned above that Maguire and Lindelhof would make a good partnership. Both left sided so they‘ll work as well as Mee & Gibson according to some on here.

Easy to mock him but if Tarks gets close to that career he will have done brilliantly and Im sure Burnley fans would be proud

Leicester are making some serious profits on player sales. Good model to follow?

Even in the last set of accounts profit on player sales accounted for £31m of the overall £45m net profit.

Leicester have made the thick end of £150million on Kante, Mahrez and Maguire,
Finding Kante and Mahrez has to be seen as incredible scouting

Yep he's not one of their star players but you have to be a good player and a good pro to last that long at a club like Man Utd whilst averaging 20 games per season (plus he's had a fair few injury issues)GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:216 appearances in 8 years, so he's played under half of all their games in his time there.

So he's basically their current John O'Shea or Wes Brown.Devils_Advocate wrote:Yep he's not one of their star players but you have to be a good player and a good pro to last that long at a club like Man Utd whilst averaging 20 games per season (plus he's had a fair few injury issues)

Re: Maguire goes to United
Tarkowski is better than O Shea and Brown.
With regards to Jones, I think he was bought at 20 million for potential and he’s never improved- gone worse if anything. Yes he won a title, but that was probably by playing ten games in a season being blooded into the side.
Yes he’s played for United, but he’s one of the many reasons they’ve been a second rate side for the last five years.

I remember when jones first signed for United, what was he 19? Looked the real deal but never progressed and like mentioned earlier has probably become more of a liability. He’s a good squad player but should not be starting for a club like untied.
Magurie isn’t worth £80m and it’s only the fact I can’t stand united that I’m glad they’re spunking there money away on a very good but not even close to world class defender.

Re: Maguire goes to United
If true he's been bought by Man U for 80 million then the games gone mad. But we know that. English players go for a premium we know but here Utd have been rinsed. Maguire is ok but there's little between him and our CB's

Everton after Tarkowski? They can have him for £30m. Plus Keane.dermotdermot wrote:Everton are after him now.

Debatable. Massively debatable.Winstonswhite wrote:Tarkowski is better than O Shea and Brown.

Ferguson once said Jones would become Manchester United's greatest ever player. Re: Maguire goes to United
Exactly this. Wes Brown was a very good player. Given the United dominance at that time and the way that Fergie would very quickly get rid of players he deemed not good enough there is no way he would have played Brown as much as he did and kept him for that long if he didn’t think he was a very good player. O’Shea the same - plus he was Ireland’s best player for ages.Socrates wrote:Debatable. Massively debatable.

Tarks is not even close to both of these players - yet.

Re: Maguire goes to United
80 Million for him? Don't be ridiculous
Re: Maguire goes to United
Just to put it in context, by the time Brown was the age Tarkowski is now :-
3 Premier League Titles
1 x Premier League Team of the Season
1 x Champions League
2 x FA Cup
1 X League Cup
2002 World Cup Squad (when we had Terry, Rio, Campbell way al)
Playing centre half for United you have to go one on one against a striker. Your full backs are twenty yards up the field, there’s no holding midfielder sat in front of you protecting you, and on midweek nights this is against the best strikers in Europe.
I like Tarks. But he’s nowhere near that level - few are.

Hard to rate Tarks until he has better players around him. Hope that is with the Clarets, but if not, it will be if he secures a big money move to a bigger club. Until then I like to think that the lad still has untapped potential.

No holding midfielder but they've had the likes of Keane, Fletcher, Carrick and then Matic sitting deep in their midfield helping to protect the back four.

Re: Maguire goes to United
Tarks has a couple of errors in his game that I am not convinced he is capable of improving on.
He dawdles on the ball from time to time, looking clumsy and vulnerable.
He tries to convince himself he can hit long pinpoint balls. Many go out of touch, yet he persists.
I think it would be good for Burnley if we got one of these over the top fees for him and then had Gibson come into the team next to Mee.
My opinion.

Do you honestly believe that JT is choosing the long diagonal pass rather than it's something they work on in training?

Re: Maguire goes to United
According to Sky
Leicester City have no plans to buy a new central defender in this transfer window, even if Harry Maguire leaves for Manchester United or Manchester City, Sky Sports News understands.
Leicester have looked at Burnley's James Tarkowski and Brighton's Lewis Dunk as possible replacements for Maguire, but we've been told Brendan Rodgers doesn't believe that either player represents good value for money - they would each likely cost more than £40m in the current market.
Instead, Rodgers will look to 22-year-old Filip Benkovic, after a successful season on loan at Celtic where he played 27 times for the Scottish champions, and Turkish international Caglar Soyuncu who's impressed Rodgers in training. If Maguire leaves, they will be asked to anchor the Leicester defence alongside one of the more experienced duo of Johnny Evans and Wes Morgan for the coming Premier League season.

Yes, a Leicester fan I know was saying this a few weeks back when I was talking about Tarkowski being linked to. He reckoned those signings had been made in anticipation of Maguire leaving.
