Ravel Morrison
Signs for Sheffield United. Strange signing in my eyes and a risk of it blowing up even more in their faces if he is as disruptive as many of his former clubs say he is

I genuinely thought he was at Blackpool. Is he not absolutely terrible?

Of course. I knew they had a wannabe gangster at some point.wilks_bfc wrote:Think you are thinking of Nile Ranger
I had a look at Morrison’s stats, for an attacking player he averages 1.6 goals per year which is pretty terrible

Re: Ravel Morrison
Obviously showed a lot of talent at a young age (England caps at U16 U17 U18 U21)) but it's noticeable that he's never played a lot for the clubs he's been with - most of his appearances have been out on loan (looks like slightly under 30 appearances for Man U, WHU, Lazio and Ostersund, with 70+ appearances out on loan (Birmingham QPR notably)).
A few problems with the law along the way too but Wilder is a good manager so may be able to get something out of him.

Re: Ravel Morrison
This lad will continue to go club to club pretending he's changed his ways and he'll continue to be found out in my opinion.
Been described as an exceptional youth player and from what former managers say and the fact he's managed to land a premier league club he must be a quality player talent wise. Trains and shows up when he wants though, a player that would be hugely detrimental to a squad like ours.

He's a talentless no mark but has a very good agent
Re: Ravel Morrison
He has fantastic ability but his attitude is all wrong. Probably his last chance at top flight football, so you never know...

There's a very good player in there, seems to have settled down over the last few years, fingers crossed he's turned his life around and now just concentrates on his football.
Wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of Wilder and that tight knit group at Sheff Utd, I think they're the perfect club for him
Re: Ravel Morrison
Obviously he’s had a lot of issues and from the outside looking in, it looks like he’s made some mistakes.
But there’s a big part of me wants to see him succeed. Everybody who has crossed his path say he’s just the most incredible player and I want to see that.
Disclaimer- I don’t think we will. I expect this to end in tears.

Obviously a hell of a talent or else Fergie and United wouldn't have bent over backwards for so long to try and sort him out. Didn't Fergie say he could have been as good as Scholes if he had his head screwed on?

Re: Ravel Morrison
That’s sheff squad reminds me a little of the rag tag bunch we had when we first got promoted under Dyche.
If there is a place to fit in and be accepted then it’s at Brammall Lane for him right now. Also with the introduction of VAR and the amount of soft penalties etc given in the Prem then his style of play will always draw a lot of fouls which could end up being the difference between Sheff staying up/going down.
The downside could be that Sheff has its own gang culture etc .. and isn’t too far away at all from the demons which followed him when he was younger and hopefully don’t reappear next season. I have a sneaky feeling he will be a HUGE part of the Sheff team and will be a revelation in the prem finally.

Fergie said Ravel had the potential/ability to be the best he'd ever seen, including Giggs, Scholes, Rooney and Ferdinand, and he was apparently much better than Pogba was when they were in the youth team together.jrgbfc wrote:Obviously a hell of a talent or else Fergie and United wouldn't have bent over backwards for so long to try and sort him out. He just lacks the mental focus required to pull it all together and perform at the top level.
That's why he's a journeyman player with a limited amount of appearances and at his 9th club, Inc loans, at the age of 26.
History suggests he won't do much at Sheff Utd and if that's the case at some point in the not to distant future clubs/managers in the top 2 divisions will stop thinking they'll be the ones who can sort him out because quite simply they can't, only he can and he doesn't appear able to do so for whatever reason.

Re: Ravel Morrison
I predict he will have a couple of good games early doors...
Find a way to be out of action December and Jan...
Pick up his pay.
And be uninterested from then on.
Then a move to Derby

Re: Ravel Morrison
Think Chris wilder would of talked through what he can and can't do before signing him also think they have an honest group of players grown-ups think he should get influenced of them.

It’d be a hell of a story if he did finally fulfil his youth potential. I can’t think of a single example of someone getting to the age of 26/27 and not really having played many games anywhere, suddenly realise their teenage reputation.Socrates wrote:Obviously he’s had a lot of issues and from the outside looking in, it looks like he’s made some mistakes.

No, which means his rise from someone who was never seen as anything special by a few managers who couldn’t click with him potentially makes it bigger.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:I'd need to look around the internet but are there any quotes from people saying he'd be better than someone like Drogba?
Morrison has the potential but needs a home - more potential than Vokes ever did and when Vokes found a home he flourished.

Sheff Utd must be pritty desperate when they are giving contracts to this no mark.
I predict them going straight back to the championship at the first attempt, if this is the calabire of their signings

It’s a 1 year deal .... so he can give his all and earn another with them/elsewhere and cash in. Or he flopsTop Claret wrote:Sheff Utd must be pritty desperate when they are giving contracts to this no mark.

and they pay him out/get rid of him. He can’t have been on silly money at the teams he was floating around and Sheff won’t be in a position to sign any superstar players so it’s more a calculated risk i’m guessing than this is some master plan.

Yeah he does need a home, but he's getting to a point where he either produces the goods regularly or he just drops down to lower leagues where he doesn't need to be as focused.bfccrazy wrote:No, which means his rise from someone who was never seen as anything special by a few managers who couldn’t click with him potentially makes it bigger.

It just reminds me of the Robin Friday story a little - even if he could display it for a brief period i’d be fascinated.
That goal he scored at Spurs was class and some of the videos of him at United as a kid - clearly there’s a player there. As I say, I don’t expect to see it but it would be amazing if we did.

I had a bet with a mate yesterday (we bet a pint) that I think he’ll have a cracking season and will be a great coup for them. Just have a feeling he’s realising that he hasn’t got any more chances now and will flourish in a team like Sheff.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:Yeah he does need a home, but he's getting to a point where he either produces the goods regularly or he just drops down to lower leagues where he doesn't need to be as focused.

Re: Ravel Morrison
I’m not sure the context in which Alex Ferguson praises Morrison’s ability but as well as being one of the best managers of all time, he also had a knack of over-promoting his young players and selling them on for inflated fees. There was a time when the lower leagues were littered with players who Ferguson ‘rated’. Anyone remember Luke Chadwick?
As for Morrison, at worst he’ll flop, at best he’ll be bang average for a struggling side. Attitude and application gets you as far as raw ability in football and he’s clearly lacking in the first two attributes.

He's technically more gifted than any player we have or have ever had including Steven Defour.
Just the type of flair player we are missing. Really hope he does well.

Fair comment but I don't think he is the type of player who Dyche is able to man manage so even if he got is act together would be no good for usJimMcDonald wrote:He's technically more gifted than any player we have or have ever had including Steven Defour.
