He’s had a cracking career. He can wind down now in a tranquil backwater.

He has had a good career, no doubt about that, but he's coming to the end of it now and isn't the goalscorer he once was.

I thought she was in South America doing Charity work... and isn't she called Bishop? Her hubby being shot while sorting out the wages, during a robbery

There are not many strikers at 34 who are to be fair, unless they drop down many levels.

Let's hope he can mark his Deepdale return with a hat trick (or two) against the Undead. :P

Ernest Bishop was a superb bit of casting. He actually LOOKED like he should definitely be working in a camera shop and writing historical articles for the local press.

The time to sign him was when he was at Bury - but we missed out.

I imagine the Preston fans excited at his re-signing will soon be wishing he hadn't gone back. Nowhere near the player he was first time around with them and struggled in the Championship when I saw him last year.

You’re right, he’s nothing like as good as he was.

What’s his goal record like? Always looked like a decent finisher and that will never leave him. Won’t be as mobile but I’m sure the Preston fans won’t mind as long as he puts the ball in the net. Personally think it’s a decent signing

Good luck to him. I hope he scores a hat-trick in every game, in a constant stream of 4-3 defeats

A nice smile but he left his foot in, often enough! The smile of an assassin!

Five years younger than Crouch, who was a PL striker last season.

I'd forgotten about him playing for us for some reason. Given he was earning double what anyone else in the squad was earning there wasn't a huge impact.

Apart from the Sunderland match I can only remember him being clean through against United at 0-0 in Law's first game and missing the target by miles. He was a good championship player who was nowhere near good enough for the Prem and thereafter proved very annoying by often scoring against us for various clubs. Can you imagine the reaction on here if JRod was 34?

But a player who since leaving us nine years ago has only started 16 Premier League games and scored five Premier League goals. Can't really do a comparison between Crouch and Nugent because one of them was clearly of a higher standard than the other.

Preston sell their star player for £8m, get 34 year old David Nugent in to appease fans (despite them knowing deep down he has been pretty useless since about 2016).

A PNE fan I know said it was no different to us signing Jay Rodriguez back - I must have missed David Nugent scoring 22 goals in that league last season (he got 2).
