What a good move that is for Tripps. A step up from Spurs. All the best to him.

It’s a fantastic move for him but I’m amazed Spurs were so keen to sell him.JohnMcGreal wrote:What a good move that is for Tripps. A step up from Spurs. All the best to him.

Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
He didn't have a good season last season but I was still surprised Spurs deemed him surplus to requirements, and to let him go for as little £20 million in this day and age is a bit strange.ClaretTony wrote:It’s a fantastic move for him but I’m amazed Spurs were so keen to sell him.
He's still got the ability to perform at the top level and I think he'll do well in Spain.

Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
Funny old game is football.
Atletico managed by Simeone are a team Dyche has admired for many years, borrowing many of their keys to success and applying it to little ol' Burnley.
Now Atletico signs one of the players to really thrive and improve under the tutelage of Mr Dyche and this system.
Well doneand good luck Keiran Trippier, I'm sure your former manager is proud as punch.

Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
Only reason I can see for letting him leave would be if Pochettino is planning to promote Walker-Peters and use him a lot more this season .
Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
And some on here thought we could have landed him.
Great move Tripps, should be a good test, and a great experience.

Good luck to him. Hope he makes the effort to integrate and learn a bit of the lingo. Seems to be a big part of how successful British players are when they go abroad, winning the respect of their team mates/fans.
It sounds like Gareth Bale has just surrounded himself with his British entourage and made no real effort to mix with his teammates, which can't have helped him.
Was it Ian Rush who famously claimed "it was like living in a foreign country" after signing for Juve and moving to Italy?

Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
Know it’s been asked before, but will we get any of that fee?
Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
Nope because they met the release fee, we have no clauses or bonuses added in. Our hands were tied as soon as they hit the minimum release fee, after that we had no control over anything else.wilks_bfc wrote:Know it’s been asked before, but will we get any of that fee?

Brilliant move for what was a brilliant player for us, Spurs and England. Incredible to see him make this move and think he will really thrive. Think Atletico are the perfect team for him.
And brave of him. Many English players stick to what they know. Would have been so easy for him to go to an Everton, West Ham or Newcastle. But will be a great experience for him and hopefully brings something to the national team.
Boy done good.

Wasn’t treated particularly well by spurs fans, atletico have got a good deal there, shame we weren’t in for him at that price.
He probably wanted to move abroad so good luck to him

Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
Afraid not. I asked the question about it but the clause Tripps had in his contract with us didn't allow for us having any more than the agreed selling fee.wilks_bfc wrote:Know it’s been asked before, but will we get any of that fee?

Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
The Spurs fans weren't happy with him last season, a couple I spoke to said they believed playing so well for England in the World Cup had gone to his head. I'm not sure I believe that but I was surprised that Spurs were so willing to let him go and amazed, to some extent, at the quality of the club interesting in signing him.
Manchester United, Napoli, Juventus were all linked and now he's gone to one of the best teams in Spain. Who was it that started the thread about him coming back here? Tripps outgrew us. It was right that he left when he did and I'm really chuffed for him that he's got this move. He owed us absolutely nothing when he left after four terrific years.

I am with you there Tony. Don't know the lad. But I can say for certain that wont have been the case. Seems very grounded.ClaretTony wrote:The Spurs fans weren't happy with him last season, a couple I spoke to said they believed playing so well for England in the World Cup had gone to his head. And you are right. Owes us nothing. Gave us some great years and is one of the reasons we are where we are. Wont do us any harm him bigging us up in Spain either.
Regardless of what happens in his career now. World Cup Semi aside, I reckon his favourite years will have been with us.
We were never in with a chance of getting him though.
Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
Spurs have had great value out of Tripps and now get 20 mill. I hope we have learnt some commercial sense since we virtually gave him away and dont have a dell in clause. Smashing player. I really enjoyed watching him for us.

We sold him for the price agreed as a clause in his contract.Stayingup wrote:Spurs have had great value out of Tripps and now get 20 mill. Do people really still not know, or struggle to understand, this?
Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
And we had to give 40% of the profit we made on Tripps to Man City
Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
Tripps will have no problem with Simeone's demands. Like SD he asks his players to work, work and then work some more. We know Tripps will run all day so I think he'll fit in well.

Apparently not.

Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
Yes I know that. But what I am saying is that the agreement was poor financial mangement from us and should not have been made in the way it was and that a sell on clause should have been inserted. Would you not agree?GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:We sold him for the price agreed as a clause in his contract.

Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
As I’m sure you’re aware, there are two parties involved in a contract. If one party won’t agree to a certain clause, but the other party really wants them to sign the contract then there really isn’t much they can do. Trippier held all the cards and we really wanted him to play for an extra season. Both parties got what they wanted out of the deal. Pretty simple really.Stayingup wrote:Yes I know that. Which deal would prefer the club had agreed to ?
Stay with us but can go for 3.5m
or
Leave us and get nothing

Re: ARTICLE: Tripps to complete move to Atletico Madrid
Then the contract would've remained unsigned quite simply, it's not hard to understand.Stayingup wrote:Yes I know that. We got something for a player we didn't pay much for.
We got a good number of years out of him, enjoyed watching him develop and both parties moved on after what turned out to be an excellent deal in signing him in the first place.
His agent held all the cards in that contract negotiation and most of us probably didn't expect him to end up at Spurs, to then become first choice and do what he did for England.
