Oh dear, what a shame, never mind. Just have to go with Tom and Nick Pope in the middle of our goal.

For whatever reason, Hart’s spell in the team coincided with a poor run of defensive form. Whether or not that was down to Hart will likely never be known.IanMcL wrote:Free transfer! Wadawasteamoney!
He remains a bloody good goalkeeper and one whose career will not be surpassed be either of the two, I think all of us would prefer to be ahead of him.
If he moves on, which is probably best for both parties, I for one wish him all the best.

I, too wish him well. However, from his panic signing to Christmas, cost £3.5m plus huge wages....my initial comment stands.DCWat wrote:For whatever reason, Hart’s spell in the team coincided with a poor run of defensive form. Whether or not that was down to Hart will likely never be known.

Re: Joe Hart
Considering the position we were in, it looked a very good signing at the time. Our defence in front of him never looked quite right but he made plenty of great saves and didn’t let us down.
I’d say waste of money is a tad harsh but I do know where you’re coming from.

I really dont understand all the hatred with joe hart . Even when the guy hasnt been playing he has still shown to be a top professional and just get on with it . He even offered to help out one of the young goal keepers that was released by us . Not many would do that
Re: Joe Hart
He was man of the match Cardiff away which got us the points. His problem was his relationship or lack of one with the defenders.

The fact that the history books will reflect that he played for our club is fantastic in and of itself.
He has won what most of our players never will and had had a long career at the top.
I wish him well.

I’m taking this as a sign that Tom will be staying. I can’t believe that Dyche would let no less than THREE goalkeepers leave at the beginning of the season.

Got player of the month most months first half of the season but obviously didn’t work out with the rest of the team.
He only wants to move abroad so that’ll be an issue moving him on no matter what the cost.

What's very revealing is that Aston Villa want an experienced Premier League keeper, there is one available that would cost significantly less than Heaton, but Hart has never been rumoured to be of interest to them, which really says it all about the relative capability of the two keepers.

Odd one. I was quite pleased when he arrived. We seemed a bit heavy on goalkeepers, but it’s hard to complain when you’re signing someone who’d been considered the best English goalkeeper for a long time just a few years ago. It didn’t work out though and we looked very vulnerable defensively during those 4 months.
I don’t know whether it’s just bad luck or something more tangible, but the last 4 years of his career have been a struggle for him.

To be fair, Heaton isn’t renowned for dominating the penalty area physically. He rarely leaves his line or 6 yard box to claim crosses. I’d say Pope showed more confidence with that.Woodleyclaret wrote:Cant catch crosses and cant organise the defence like Tom does.A very poor signing.

Not saying I agree with Inchy’s remarks but how can you not base the opinion on “30 premier league games” if that is all Pope has played ?Siddo wrote:I have often said that 90% of poster's on this forum know absolutely nothing about football, what is needed to be a professional, the demands and pressures of the game, and the mentality required to ply your trade in front of 20,000 experts every week.

The statistics for the only season that both Hart and Pope were playing top flight football were very clearly in favour of Pope. Hart was dropped a few times for West Ham and when he did play made a few bad mistakes - our victory at West Ham being a good example. Pope by contrast had the best statistics in the league and was up there as one of the best keepers - and was rewarded with being picked for England.
If you look at the seasons before that Hart was also struggling for form - he had a bad time at Turin making some real howlers and he also got a lot of stick for his performances for England in the euros.
I am not saying Pope has had better career than Hart - that would be ridiculous...or he has been a better keeper - that would be equally ridiculous....but right now in the games they have both played in the Premier League a lot of people would say Pope has been a better keeper than Hart - albeit from a single season of evidence.

Joe Hart -1.66
Nick Pope +10.66
'Using expected goal data, we can see Pope conceded 10.26 goals fewer than the average keeper facing the same quality of shots. Another stand-out statistic is that he made 52 catches - compared with the three made by Hart and the eight by Heaton during the season just ended.'

Re: Joe Hart
Plus you need to factor in the way we play. As a Burnley keeper you will be expected to face a lot of shots from distance and be able to come for crosses. Hart is pretty average at both of these, whereas Pope is probably the best.Hipper wrote:Expected goals prevented: Tom Heaton -3.68

Heaton is the best at organising and has also been consistently good for us over a period of time.
Hart is a good reflex keeper and is also very good at 1-1 situations. This is probably why he has been suited to playing for England and city for most of his career.
His weaknesses are exposed when playing for a team like us I'm afraid.

HART - 57.61%
POPE - 76.51%
Can you provide any evidence that Hart is a better player than Pope?

Reading comments by some on here, it seems that it must be trendy to dislike Joe Hart. You are no doubt the same people who gave Dean Marney stick in his first couple of seasons.
Joe was brilliant for us last season and he was certainly not the reason for our poor early season form, even though results did pick up with introduction of Heaton.
Our poor form was a multitude of reasons which all started from a poor pre season due to the europa campaign and the managers negative tactics.
Hart kept the score line down and was the mom in the vast majority of his games

So Aston Villa could therefore have Hart for nowt instead of paying £12million for Heaton. But the fact that they won’t speaks volumes about how another Premier League club rates him.

Hart was shocking. Being man of match means nothing. Hendrick was given man of match loads when he was playing as no10 and he was shocking as well. Much better since he'd not been played there.

Re: Joe Hart
Only contradiction is in your head. Heaton obviously had a small part to play but was little to do with our change of fortune. Our season changed after Dyche replaced his negative tactics with some positive thinking. Dyche introduced Mcneil and let Taylor play his natural game has an attacking wing back.joey13 wrote:You do see how you contradicted yourself there, don’t you
In midfield Westwood who had been poor found a dramatic change of form. Lowton who was dreadful was replaced by Bardsley and up top Vokes was dropped.
Barnes and Wood went on to form a successful partnership.
