Great track but if only 3 still exist could that be the reason vinyl went out of favour?

Motown didn't want to release it, they thought it wouldn't be a hit.Mala591 wrote:Is still 'Do I Love You (indeed I do)' written and sung by Frank Wilson

It probably wouldn't have been if not for the Northern Soul scene.
One of my favourites.

Seriously that is a great tune but is it the version backed by Julia Dream? I'm sure that was the B side of SEP. Only ever heard it on A Collection of Antiques and Curios album. It is one of the dreamiest songs I have ever heard (and eerie when Waters whispers Syyyyyd at the end).
Incidentally I have never heard of the track in the OP or the artist - is that because I don't like soul?

Nah, Scarecrow is the b-side. Julia is on another I think. SEP was the first single I bought about 10 years back. It was playing in the store and I had to buy it.

I have an orange vinyl 7" of Gary Numan's She's Got Claws from 1981. It is the only one to have ever surfaced.
The value of it is nowhere near that of the OP, but I have been offered £2,500 for it.
For anyone who may be curious about it, I have included it in the Numan listings on Discogs.

One of Floyd's lesser known really, given it's a compilation. I had the original black and white cover version, a later re-issue had a splash of colour on it.Funkydrummer wrote:Not a problem pal - I've still got the vinyl LP.

When I bought my first copy of Wish You Were Here I took it back because it played side two on both sides. How young and stupid was I, it would be worth a lot to a collector now methinks.

No mate, Ginger has a copy of the female version by Chris Clarke.Burnley1989 wrote:Im sure somebody once told me Ginger Taylor has a copy but I could be wrong
There are 4 known copies of Do I Love you by Frank Wilson. Kenny Burrell may still have one, an anonymous collector paid £25k for one a few years ago, Berry Gordy has one and supposedly a collector in London has one.
However, only 2 copies have ever been seen. These were stolen from the Motown archives in the mid 70s by Simon Soussan, a bootlegger of northern soul records but also a discoverer of hundreds of recorde in the 70s, which he sold to DJs.
I held one of the copies once. Tim Brown played it at Gingers Kestrel Suite nights as his last record. I was nect on and took his copy off the deck and passed it to him.
I believe he sold his copy for £15k.

Tim Brown bought his off Kev Roberts for £5k. And I thought there were only 3 known copies. Never heard of Berry Gordy having one.

I did have Rock around the Clock by Bill Haley and the Comets on 78rpm and I think that was around the time everyone was moving over to 45rpm. Anyway someone sat on it and it snapped
I don’t think it was worth that much anyway (surprisingly)
I’ve got a few George Formby 78s in the attic and Rubber Soul by the Beatles on tape - the old reel to reel type

If you read Brian's book, I'm the guy who drove the van to Wigan casino with loads of people in the back. Re: The worlds most valuable single (vinyl)
Hope this link works. It's from an article on soul source about the record which tells the way Motown would press 6 copies of records for the quality control meeting.Corky wrote:Tim Brown bought his off Kev Roberts for £5k. And I thought there were only 3 known copies. Never heard of Berry Gordy having one.
When the article was written only 2 copies had emerged, but it is now thought that as many as 4 or 5 exist.

I'm going to a Mecca reunion tonight in London. Levine and Curtis (or Dimond as he now calls himself - well it is his real surname) DJing together. Must say I can't abide Levine but have a lot of time for Curtis. Should be good. Will be on the pop from 18:30 so could get messy on the dance floor.
I'd read the article by Andy Rix(?) and knew about the 6 from the pressing plant and them keeping 3 and 3 going to Motown. I love all the intrigue.
