Re: Tarky on the move?
It’s disappointing for me. He’s very similar to maguire I think. He can be sloppy but he’s a monster centre half more often than not. I’ve loved watching him.
However, it’s likely to be almost double our previous record transfer and when you consider he arrived here for (was it £2m ??), then it wouldn’t be Burnley not to cash in.
Surely Gibson gets his chance now. I believe we haven’t seen his quality yet but hopefully he’ll get his career back on track if he gets a run of games under his belt.

There was a link in the Independent with us and Tomori (Chelsea loanee at Derby last season). Thought he looked excellent in the Championship play off final. Different type to Tarks but skilful and quick. Derby’s best player on the day.

I think we might have known that this has been in the works (for Tarks to leave), which is why we got Gibson last year. 15 million seemed a lot for someone who was not going to slot into the starting lineup.
We signed Tarks as a pre-replacement, before Keane left.
I think Gibson -Mee pairing could work.

What is the point selling and banking the cash? We all know the full funds won’t be given to Dyche for signings.

Not suggesting you are mate, and i'm all in for the Gibson/Mee partnership. If i'm honest tho, as much as I understand how and why we do things like we do, i'd really wanna see any monies IMMEDIATELY invested in the CM position. That would be my one condition in backing the sale of Tarks.ksrclaret wrote:Well I'm not daft, I know how we operate, so probably not.
I'd still sell for that price though, put Gibson in and give him his chance.

Tarkowski's stats with us are amazing. He will be very hard to replace. I can't see us making much profit out of this if we do sell.

Re: Tarky on the move?
Not a chance of us bringing in anyone better than Gibson to replace Tarkowski. We struggle to attrack quality and to replace him we would have to break our wage structure.
We can't rely on Gibson to do the job Tarks did when he replaced Keane. This season will be another struggle if Tarks goes, unless we strengthen in midfield

£40m less 25% due to Brentford leaves £30m for Garlick to put away for a rainy day since we have spent very little thus far on squad strengthening and were surely not relying on selling Tarks for bringing a centre mid in.

Not having a pop, but we have had plenty of right sided centre halves that have served us well enough when played together. Why won't two lefties?ClaretTony wrote:I for one would be seriously concerned at a Gibson, Mee partnership given how left sided both are.
Anyway, my own personal thoughts on the arrival of Gibson, involved Mee leaving - for no other reason than a club like Burnley spending what we did on a bench warmer was inconceivable to me considering what we spend on the first eleven.

Haven’t read the full thread, so sorry if I’ve missed it but from what I can see there’s only reports that he’s there for talks.
Now wouldn’t he only be talking to them if there had been an offer accepted. If that was the case, wouldn’t that be getting reported?

Re: Tarky on the move?
My thoughts in general about this are that as there are more right footers than leftys so throughout youth football and into professional football they will often be two right footed centre halfs so they get used to and adapt to playing on both sides. If you are left footed you probably almost always play on your natural side so dont gain the experience that right footers do like for example Keane did when playing with Duffbobinho wrote:Not having a pop, but we have had plenty of right sided centre halves that have served us well enough when played together. There's no reason in theory why a left footer cant as easily play on the wrong side as a right footer can but at this level of football where any drop in % matters suddenly putting a player in a unnatural position can have an adverse effect

Re: Tarky on the move?
We needed a central defender. We’d been one short for a year. Had Gibson not suffered the injuries last season I’m convinced he’d have got in the side given how poor Mee was at times in the first half of the season. Because, when fit, Mee was playing well and immovable it doesn’t make Gibson a bench warmer.bobinho wrote:Ok, Mee wasn’t leaving, but if I remember right, Mee hadn’t signed the new deal when we brought in Gibson. Re: Tarky on the move?
I honestly reckon we're already good enough to survive the season with Long, Mee, Gibson and Dunne as our centre halves. No one (hardly anyone) knew who Dwight was until christmas and he turned out alright when pushed into the deep end, so who knows how good Dunne will be? Dyche is nothing if not pragmatic and £40,000,000 for any of our players is 'i'll drive him there myself' stuff.
If we got £40,000,000 for Tarks, then spending £20m on a central midfielder is less risky than it was before, even at 50k a week for four years.

If Long had played the amount of games Tarks and Mee have he’d be better than both imo.
He comes in having sat on his arse for months and never looks out of place in the PL. He’s far far better than people believe.

Great insight. Tarks’ is a big character and influence on the team. To lose him and Heaton would be a worry.Top Claret wrote:If Tarks goes Heaton must stay. Both are characters and we can't afford to lose the pair of them
Having watched them closely I’m not sure that despite our admiration of several other players and their role, that there’s two bigger influencers than Tarks and Tom.
I’d agree that the money would be a big chance to replace elements of the team wisely.
But these are big characters to replace.....
I’m crossing my fingers and trusting Dyche.
