New Pub - Vintage Claret

It looks like a new pub will be opening before the season. The old UDA building was a bit of an eyesore so it looks a huge improvement on Yorkshire Street.

Looks great. Let’s hope it’s jam packed full of great pictures from our past.

Hope it works out as it looks very nice but you have to wonder about the placement of such a bar and how it will do when there is no home match.

With the Park View/new name opening by Christmas it does give people an option to have a night out it reasonably recent refurbished pubs around the Culvert area, rather than venturing into town.

Prinny, Turf, Vintage, Miners, Brickies, View.

I’m not including the Oxford in that. :)

I hope locals support them.

Well, now I know how proud Sean Dyche feels having a Burnley pub named after him ;-)

I hope it's a micro pub selling proper ale and not that Budweiser shite.

No; that was across Plumbe St.

It’s the washing machine shop across the road (the aroyal Dyche side) from the old Ladbrokes. Next door to Miners as such on the corner.

Surely they aren't going for the upmarket/trendy bar vibe are they? Looks a bit that way going off the pictures, if they are I can't see it working in that area of the town.

I hope it sells a nice fizzy lager and cocktails with umbrellas. None of the real ale shite.

The interior doesn’t look like it belongs to the exterior. Vintage staircase and decor with track suits on a match day. Could work.

On the plus side with two new pubs hopefully opening there's the basis of a good pub crawl there now after a game starting at Park View and working your way down to the Prinny. Going for a beer in the town centre is incredibly depressing these days.

With you here Blackrod.

I love a creme de menthe, lime, soda, ginger and pomegranate seed cocktail before heading on the match.

Been inside it a month or so ago, obviously it was still being constructed but the lay out looks decent I just hope the prices will be because if they're not then fans will just go to the usual pubs which are a plenty.

You can't beat a decent glass of water on the rocks.

People would rather pay for quality these days.

And to open new premises in these times, you need plenty of quality.

Got to sell decent ale and be “kid friendly” otherwise we will stick with the fan zone on the rare occasions we have a prematch drink

Fair comment, most of the time it's about who runs it. They can keep the idiots out and still charge a fair price. On the other hand I would rather pay 3 quid for a decent pint than 2.50 for a **** one.

I’d rather pay slightly more for a better pint and environment than be stuck to the floor in a pub full of idiots.

I think you're describing Harry's bar/Cross Keys from the mid 90s.

Does anyone know who the proprietor is putting up the money?

The Club perhaps?

I could be, ha. Even The Turf Hotel was like that until they did it up a couple of years ago, and the Park View the same, and those pubs did/do get some idiots in. If an extra £0.20 to £0.50 per pint helps put the riff raff off then that’s got to be a good thing. I’d happily pay more for that.

Had a look at it earlier and it improves the area no end. I hope it is a success and as others have mentioned it is correctly priced and forms part of the pre and post match regime. I think it is the midweek trade that is difficult in this area.

5 Pubs and 2 clubs within a 100 metres of each other is not going to work except perhaps on a match day.

I think it can as there’s nowhere else in Burnley to become a pub crawl. My local shut recently and there was 40 comments from people bemoaning the fact it had shut and was sad times, yet none of them came in the pub? I’ll always use my locals because I don’t drink in my house but each to their own

Maybe not but Tex as previously mentioned is not a ‘newby’ He has a portfolio of pubs around Burnley and Padiham. It’s when he’s built them back up and flogs them they tend to go belly up.

Unfortunately the Budweiser name is generally associated with the **** water lager from America rather than the original, and excellent, Czech version.

Of course. Only tend to frequent 'spoons on away trips. When they can accommodate numbers, offer great range of beers at cheap prices (on our stop in London last year on our way to West Ham the dearest real ale was £2.15 with the cheapest being £1.89), allow kids in, cheap food, never any agro etc etc.

The wine bar opposite the court don’t know the name and George IV in Padiham are/were both his too I’m pretty sure. Don’t know him through pubs, just that he has /had quite a few others besides those mentioned.

The yanks actually tried to sue them for infringing copyright. The yanks lost when it was pointed out the Czechs kind of had the name first and that they kind of invented pilsner.

No probs with that, as long as there are a couple of taps of Carling for the `non beer snobs` so us `normal` folk can have a pint. ;)
