Man on the Moon..
Yes 50 years ago tomorrow two men first walked on the Moon, not sure today's youngster's properly grasp the enormity of what happened.
All three blokes from the Apollo 11 spaceflight are still knocking about - Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins..the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle
landed on 20th July 1969 at 20.17 UTC and Armstrong and Aldrin walked on the Moon 6 hours 39 minutes late. Collins flew the Command Module Columbia alone in lunar orbit while the other two were on the moon's surface.
This is REM with Bruce Springsteen helping them out, they do a pretty good job together - 'Man on the Moon'

Amazing feat.
Though unfortunately Neil Armstrong has gone to infinity and beyond, in 2012.
Brave and adventurous beyond belief.

I'm not religious bobinho, so best avoid that one. I just find it hard to believe nobody has been back in 50 years. Such a race to be the first, then nothing.

NASA put men on the moon five more times after Apollo 11. Would have been six if Apollo 13 hadn’t needed the AA on the way there.Barry_Chuckle wrote:I'm not religious bobinho, so best avoid that one. Re: Man on the Moon..
There were 5 more moon landings after Apollo 11, the last was in 1972 and by that time interest in the 'space race' had subsided and the USA had other priorities to spend their money on.Barry_Chuckle wrote:I'm not religious bobinho, so best avoid that one. Re: Man on the Moon..
Hell of a lot of people to keep quiet for a hell of a long time if it didn’t happen on multiple occasions.
Re: Man on the Moon..
Interesting that they’re now thinking of using the moon as a staging post for journeys far beyond and looking to use resources on the moon to support this.

An amazing thing to achieve.
But space or the idea of space just baffles me. What a waste of time, effort and money. Looking for water on other planets. Why? We running out of room to put our plastic? Possibly, they’ve already littered space with junk.

There’s plenty of places you go to and think there’s nowt here so no point coming back. Blackburn being a great example....Barry_Chuckle wrote:I'm not religious bobinho, so best avoid that one. Re: Man on the Moon..
Because it was a political thing primarily to show the Yanks to be up with and then ahead of the USSR. So the raison d'etre was accomplished although they sent another 6 missions after 11 with 5 more landings or for the flat earth society another 6 fake flights including one fake near made up disasterBarry_Chuckle wrote:I'm not religious bobinho, so best avoid that one. Whilst this was indeed an amazing success it paled into almost insignificance by the "success" of Apollo 13 had of course Apollo 13 ever left the earth which it clearly never did according to some.

The last crewed landing was three years later.

They proved they could, but once you got all the samples you need, it becomes a very expensive hobby, and there are other priorities.

I challenged one of the Apollo 11 crew to an arm wrestle, once.
In hindsight I guess I should have chosen Aldrin or Collins.

So in that case why are they bothering in going back there 50 years later ?scouseclaret wrote:Maybe the reason we haven’t been back is because there is f**k all there!

Evidence you ask. Here's a secondary source but it refers to the primary one:

Buzz Aldrin is a Claret
He wears a Claret hat
He's to young for the Bob Lord
Cos he's not a grumpy tw@t
He suggested that the moon
Isn't very good
But the most lifeless place that he has seen
Is the sh1thole called Ewood.

Re: Man on the Moon..
There's a good BBC podcast called 13 minutes to the moon, or something. The number of people involved was mind blowing, around 300,000. And not one of them has blown the 'hoax' in 50 years?

Re: Man on the Moon..
For anyone still doubting that it happened 50 years later, don't you think that during all those passing years the Russians might just have come up with some evidence that disproved it? It was after all a space race, and Russia lost. They'd be all over this if they thought they could discredit the Americans.
