When the world was diverse

Post by Pstotto » Sat Jul 20, 2019 9:54 am

...Each town in England had its specialist industry, each town its own accent and particularity of architecture, in a world where one knew when one was in a different district and a different country. How fantastic and special, a world worth traveling around and for a reason.

Now, in the name of diversity, same everywhere a nondescript world of ubiquity and valueless to boot.

I think, to be fair, even in a world where, granted, every thing seems to nondescript and characterless there is plenty of diversity in every town you visit. You may have to spend time there - visiting on a matchday, for example, is a mere snapshot - but the people and the place's history will have something to offer. You just have to look for it.
It does seem at times when the loudest shouters are deemed to be right and the more thoughtful, intelligent and circumspect are regarded as mere fodder or pawns to be used to satisfy others' lust for power or admiration, however baseless, that there is not much out there that actually means an awful lot any more.
It's wrong to think like that. It's fashionable, as this board proves, to be loud, arrogant, greedy, attention-seeking, racist and generally inhumane but those morons, thankfully, are in a very small minority.
The politicians who give the green light to these idiots by abandoning any principles they had for personal ambition - "success" at any price - will be found out for the con artists they are.

We'll be all right.

The past is a foreign country - they do things differently there.

Sme industries have gone, architecture too but accents and character tend to live on irrespective of new developments - no pun intended - welcome or otherwise.
