Surely it's not worth it for betting on glorified training sessions though?WestMidsClaret wrote:That's not necessarily true. I don't bet on friendlies but you can find decent angles and good prices knocking about (which is what gamblers look for).

Re: Today’s lineups
I know it was a pre season friendly but we were sh!te against Crewe. Jay Rod and Barnes didn’t do much at all up front and we looked very fragile at the back.

So you expect players to be fully ready in such a game?BennyD wrote:I know it was a pre season friendly but we were sh!te against Crewe. Jay Rod and Barnes didn’t do much at all up front and we looked very fragile at the back.

Some people may think it's worth it. I wouldn't advise betting on friendlies but each to their own. Who am I to tell people what they should and shouldn't do. It's their money.jrgbfc wrote:Surely it's not worth it for betting on glorified training sessions though?

I was contemplating a small bet on Crewe today. Played more games than us, season starts earlier, we were splitting teams and focusing purely on fitness.
I didn’t bother in the end.

I put a fiver on Crewe when I saw the defence.

Re: Today’s lineups
Exactly. Around 10/3 was a big price and you've pointed out the angles. I would never berate someone trying to find these sort of angles and trying to beat the bookies. The reason why I don't bother is because it's usually an unknown quantity. A bit like the league cup games I suppose.Bordeauxclaret wrote:True that.

Re: Today’s lineups
I do feel for Brady somewhat. He has certain attributes that suit this league well but was just slow to demonstrate them early on, then when he did he picked up a 1yr+ injury. And now he has to compete with our best prospect in decades. Sad, really - but hopefully that will push him on as he enters his prime years.

Re: Today’s lineups
He didn’t look like our best prospect in decades this afternoon at Crewe, but to be honest the Crewe lads gave all the Burnley players the run around with neat passing and solid defending when required .SGr wrote:I do feel for Brady somewhat. Anyone criticising players for performances at this stage really need to give their heads a wobble.

Yes I realise where Brady was, but I presumed that SGr was referring to McNeil when comparing Brady to our best prospect in decades.

Re: Today’s lineups
I think I chose the wrong game. It was a poor watch at Crewe and at least they got three goals at Port Vale.
Enjoyed it though. Good to meet up again with friends you haven’t seen in a while and it’s not often you get to sit in the Ice Cream Van Stand.

Re: Today’s lineups
As long as we avoided any injuries, that's all that really matters at this stage.

Re: Today’s lineups
Absolutely. It was a disjointed looking lineup at Crewe but it got through the game, added 90 minutes for them all and moved us one step closer to where we want to be on 10th August.JohnDearyMe wrote:As long as we avoided any injuries, that's all that really matters at this stage.

Let’s be real, if we played either first game of the season we would beat them 9/10

Re: Today’s lineups
Both of those starting elevens would be ok in the Championship. Strength in depth, though I still say we need more power in midfield.

Re: Today’s lineups
No, but I was surprised how easily Crewe negated any threat from us. I was expecting us to push on in the second half but nothing happened. Crewe played Ok but, even at this stage of pre season, we should have stretched them more.Spijed wrote:So you expect players to be fully ready in such a game?
