Brilliant documentary on BBC4, still available for 21 days or so ...

If you're not a fan of the King, it's a wonderful insight into the workings of the music business, back in the day ..

I'm sat on the toilet eating a burger whilst reading this thread on my phone. Spooky.

I'd have liked to see him live but it was well before my time. Here's a video from one of his last performances in 1977 (the year he died). You can see he's not well but what a great voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG9ph9xkOrw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Elvis ... the comeback 1968-70 ..
I think the boredom and overwork did for him, he was trapped in the States because his manager was a Dutch illegal immigrant, who wouldn't apply for a passport. He'd jumped a ship in Breda in the 1930's, shortly after a young woman was found dead in suspicious circumstances ...
When he started the " White suit " shows in Las Vegas, he did 2 hour long shows a night ( 8 pm & midnight ), 7 days a week for four weeks at a time, and that's unsustainable, Barry Manilow has the residency at the same Hotel now and he does 3 shows a week !!
Presley should have been playing stadiums in Europe, Japan, Australia etc during the 1970's, the " Aloha from Hawaii " show in January 1973, showed he stil " had it " in spades, but less than 5 years later, he was dead ..

Probably is now, " tim_noone ", but quite a bit of circumstantial evidence that he may have been placed in the " Witness protection " programme, and relocated to Kalamazoo, Michigan .....tim_noone wrote:Elvis is Dead?

Clarets4me, I don't know about the "boredom and overwork" that did for him. I don't think the 20 to 30 pills he was popping everyday and his gargantuan appetite for junk food helped him a lot.

Of course you're right, but these were the consequences of the boredom and overwork ... and no " Betty Ford " clinics or similar, back in those days ..Vino blanco wrote:Clarets4me, I don't know about the "boredom and overwork" that did for him. Re: Elvis ... the comeback 1968-70 ..
It’s remarkable to think that had elvis been around just 10 yrs later he’d have simply checked into a health farm type place and been back to his best after a couple of months .
I personally blame “Colonel” Tom Parker for Elvis’s demise ( though I’d hazard a guess that Sanders was part to blame too !)
