Nordens subpro was the difference today. A Smitlike performance. We let them get too many after a bright start and in typical Lowerhouse fashion never seemed to manage the runrate correctly in the chase and left ourselves too much to do...this despite being given 15 extras in the first over!

Re: Local League Cricket 21/7/19
The Rammy signing of Smit is actually against the league rules.
Smit has agreed a new contract at Derbyshire which could well mean he misses periods of the season due to those commitments.
I think they are trying it on as Karl Brown aa a given some flexibility after signing for Accrington so maybe they will argue a precedent has been set.
Be interesting to see what the clubs vote in this instance.

Re: Local League Cricket 21/7/19
I was a little surprised to be honest but after Burnley have had virtually sub pro's all season it would be strange if they were refused.
I know its a different league but when Padiham had Mark Harvey as pro, he missed games playing for Lancs 1st team. He always sent a Lancs 2nd teamer to replace him and they were always of high standard.

Re: Local League Cricket 21/7/19
It’s slightly different to Burnley.
Burnley were let down last minute and have run with sub pros all season. They have to be fair to them, tried to sign pros for periods of time such as Allenby and Smit covering multiple games.
Rammy are signing a player who is contracted to play cricket for a team who also have fixtures planned at the same time as Rammy games. Whether he will be picked or not for those games is irrelevant as they are signing him knowing there is a strong possibility we won’t be available.

Probably best for the league to adapt and just make sure a professional is played in every game.

There is a big difference in signing a player that may miss the start or end of a season.
Smit is signing whilst eh has a pro contract with a team that has a diary full of fixture clashes with LL games.

Yes, because he has a contract with Derbyshire and therefore they have first refusal on hsi services. As said above, he's been called up now for Derbyshire.DAVETHEVICAR wrote:Does it though,First Class Counties Second Teams play most matches during the week
The rules as they stand don't allow the signing so will be interesting to see how it develops.
