Jack Butterfield front left and the fair haired player in the dark shirt behind the woman is Arthur Woodruff. Is that Les Shannon at the back and is the keeper next to him Colin McDonald?

And is that a young looking George Bray one step behind and between Butterfield and Mather? The head behind Mather, is that possibly Attwell?

Pretty sure it is George Bray but not sure about Attwell. I thought the guy next to Les Shannon could have been Attwell but not certain in either case

What a superb photo. A friend of mine, Tommy Willighan, who played for the Ex-Clarets around that time will not be happy with me not being able to name them all.

Definitely Les Shannon and Colin McDonald on the back row and I think Reg Attwell is next to Les. Then Arthur Woodruff at the end with I think David Cargill next to him and then perhaps Len Martindale.

Then definitely Jack Butterfield and Harold Mather at the front and probably George Bray in behind them. The only doubt I have there is that if the photo is 1962 then George would have been 44 years old at that time and he looks a very young 44 if that's the case.

Anyway, sure MikeS will put us all right.

Colin McDonald, although injured in 1959, was, according to wiki, on our books until 1961. As it's ex-Clarets it might not be so far wrong.

Born on the 11th day of the 11th month, he was very young looking if that's George. I'm beginning to seriously doubt it's him now.

As for Attwell, are you meaning the one to the left of Les Shannon as you look at the picture?

Agree with you re age but still there's a very strong resemblance.

Yes, to the left of Shannon as you look at the photo. Colin Mc on the other side.

Like CT i am not thinking it is George Bray. Photo must be 62 at the earliest because of the date on the sash. Who ever it is he had a hell of a quiff going on

Also Tony, we really should know the player directly behind Jack Butterfield, his face is very familiar but for the life of me can't put a name to him.

These players are all before my time. I recognised Butterfield because of his being at the club as commercial manager and I easily recognised Woodruff and Shannon. But some of the others, I've no idea.

I take your point......Someone posted a photo on here last week of Adamson and Bray welcoming the players back to training for the 1969/70 season. The difference in looks over those 7 years is just too stark.

Colin McDonald would have been 31 in that photo in '62. How fantastic to see him in your photo on here of him just last season with all our other England keepers.

Can you repeat the photo on this thread, Tony?

The player in front of Les Shannon is Gordon Haigh. I think the player partially hidden is Les Samual.

In “The Complete Clarets Collection” there is a photo of the ‘47 Cup Final team.
George Bray, third from right back row, is on it but Jack Billingham, third from left front row, has the identical quiff to our mystery man.

That must be Mick Roberts on the front row far right in the R.R. team.
One of 3 Roberts brothers along with Garry & Malcolm who worked at R.R. all their life's.

The player stood behind Butterfield and Mather, maybe Michael Hennigan, who played mostly in the A team and left to join Nelson fc, who around the time had a number of ex Clarets who played for them and if my memories right Harold also managed them. Hennigan for many years was a milkman covering Fulledge and Brunshaw.

Royboy, give me a hand with this one. The man standing in the crowd at the back with the trilby on. Is it Harold Spencer?.
Look at the bloke to his right with something in his mouth, he’s chewing on. One of the kids has a look of Gordon Haighs son.

I recognise my dad (just in front of Colin McDonald, to the right) and my uncle (front right) - both of whom played for the Rolls-Royce team.

First time poster here, no I'm not connected to the 'Rocky' but just happen to come from Rawtenstall, hence the name rockyman, I attended a number of these ex clarets games in the early/mid sixties, including ones at Peel Park, dark lane and Seedhill, the players I always remember playing were jack Chew and Bill Holden, is that Jack Chew directly behind Jack Butterfield and could that be Bill Holden who is partially hidden behind Harold Mather. As an aside anybody remember the strip the ex clarets wore, I'm sure it was Royal blue shirt and claret shorts, unusual at the time.
