Loving it.
The lefties are in absolute meltdown on twitter, its literally like the EU referendum all over again.
As someone who wants the Tories to lose the next election I'm loving how right-wing this government is too.
Re: Boris
I think it’s because the brextremists don’t want to give it a chance. Othing but the purest fullest separation will be good enough for them. It’s like Pol Pot taking it to Year Zero. Break Britain completely down and rebuild it in they way they always wished it could be. A small government, low tax, low regulation “paradise”.nil_desperandum wrote:That's the bit I don't get. (So no different to now in reality).
Ultimately, surely, we can walk away with no deal tomorrow or any day if it gets through the Commons?

Mays government was probably the wettest in living memory, she inspired 0 confidence and fought the worst general election campaign I have ever seen, yet she still managed to beat Corbyn. Boris is not May, people on my side actually LIKE him, and normies who barely know anything about politics but vote anyway recognise and like him too because "hur dur the funny guy who is always doing crazy stuff"
He is exactly what the Tories need, and i firmly believe that if he runs a GE, the tories will tear Labour apart.
Re: Boris
It's a bit of a weird one. In theory we couldn't walk away from the backstop as we'd be breaking an international treaty and that would obviously be a bad thing. However, introducing a hard border in Ireland would also be breaking an international treaty. It's a bit of a rock and hard place.nil_desperandum wrote:That's the bit I don't get. It's all just a means by which people can be convinced to vote against their own interests. As long as you can get them afraid, or angry, or hateful of other people more than they're concerned by their own lot in life, then they'll vote *against* their neighbour rather than *for* themselves.Bordeauxclaret wrote:I’m seeing more and more of this from people. The sky poll shows that 42% of people feel more pessimistic under Boris, and 51% think he isnt a serious politician. Yet still twice as many people think he will make a better PM than Corbyn. If Boris does badly, as he well could with the enemies hes made on the bank benches, we could be in for one hung parliament after another for decades.

If there are no customs checks whatsoever you're basically saying there are no tariffs on imports from the EU, which means any WTO nation would be able to make a complaint on the grounds that they're being discriminated against.dsr wrote:And it won't be a problem. Even under WTO rules, which do not specify a hard border, the problem of having a physical border is so insurmountable that a solution would be found. The basis of the paperwork on exports to Ireland is already in place; every export already has specific paperwork. The paperwork would be amended, and the way HMRC checks it would also be amended. There is no rule that says every import and export should be physically checked; there is no rule that says there must be random checks of imports and exports.
And if there are even minor customs checks and infrastructure on the border the EU are unlikely to give us a trade deal.

Politics works in cycles over time, we have right wing governments, then left, then centrist.
So anyone who’s massively excited/depressed by this, just remember it will all change in a few years. So stop calling each other names.

Surprised by the Sajid appointment in that he was not at all complimentary about Boris on the campaign trail. At least he has a background that does qualify him for the Chancellor job. Not a fan of jobs for the boys and appointing someone who is not qualified for the job. Eg the boss of a pharmaceutical company becoming a boss of an engineering firm knowing nothing about that industry.

The bumbling idiot appoints Pritti Patel and Dominic Raab to top jobs in the Cabinet! Democracy is being treated with disdain. This is the best thing that could ever happen to the Conservative Party.
My enjoyment comes from the ridiculous, misplaced optimism the right-wingers are enjoying today.
Boris Johnson will deliver the OPPOSITE of everything he's promising, he will split the country, Brexit will get cancelled and a general election will see him laughed out of office and the destruction of the Conservative Party.
